They work well, especially with a bunch of ground radials. But you do need a NanoVNA or analyzer to tune them. You will drive yourself crazy trying to use a SWR meter to tune them.

I run 24 to 32 radials with my vertical.

24 radials? Wow!

I thought eight was a lot. 🤣

There are guys that have permanently installed ground mounted verticals that use 60 or more ground radials. There is a point of diminishing returns once you get to a certain number of radials. But usually the more ground radials you have on a 1/4 wave vertical, the better the antenna performs.

I have three 8 1/5 ft radial wires per single 4mm banana plug and my antenna has holes to connect 8 radials. That is how I connect 24 radials at one time. I then made some 4mm banana plug y adapters so I can add 8 of the longer radials if I want.

I've been getting a lot of POTA contacts. Most come in at 5/3-5/4 but we still make the QSO. I guess I'm becoming a POTA Hunter, LOL.

You can sign up for an account on the POTA website. Once signed up you can get credits for the POTA stations you work as a hunter that apply towards awards. I signed up way before I ever did my first POTA activation and had a lot of calls in my blog as a hunter.

Don't you have to be an ARRL member to do that?
