TNFrank Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Before I get on the air I wanted to share a Custom Log Sheet that I made up/modified from a log sheet that I downloaded. The original had a lot of stuff that I just didn't need or care about so I set this one up for things I actually was logging in. If you want to give it a look or download and try it feel free. 73 logsheet_custom1.pdf Quote

Honestly I do all my logging electronically. WSJT-x feeds into Ham Radio Deluxe and every so often I upload to LOTW and QRZ. You’ll almost certainly find that most people do something similar. Quote
WRYZ926 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Nice. I agree that a column for Mode would be nice. A mode column wold be nice even for technicians that make SSB, Digital, or CW contacts. I let WSJT-X and Grid Tracker log all of my FT4/FT8 contacts automatically to QRZ and LOTW. I manually type in voice contacts at home and use the HAMRS app to log all POTA contacts. Quote
TNFrank Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 I couldn't really move the columns around and since all I can do voice wise is SSB it's just a given for me that it'll be USB. The log sheet I modified had a lot of stuff I don't need or use so this works better for me. I've been not only logging contacts but also stations that come in clearly along with their call sign and location just to figure out how far they're transmitting. I hear a lot of guys running the Icom 7300's so I guess that's a fairly popular radio but well out of my price range. I do want to get a better tripod for my antenna to get it a few more feet up in the air. I think if I can get it from 9 feet(1/4 wave length) up to 15 feet(close to 1/2 wave length)it'd help some. I'm just surprised at the contacts I have made with my little set up. 35w and an inverted V has gotten me to Quebec, Alaska and a number of States like Michigan, Georgia, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois and New York. It's crazy how far HF will go. I'm having a lot more fun and actually using my radio on HF than I did on GMRS or even VHF/UHF HAM Radio. SteveShannon and WRYZ926 2 Quote

Mod that radio so it will do 12 meters (easy, clip one wire and move one jumper). Quite a few POTA activators go above 28.500, and some use 12 meters. You'll need to add about a foot to each side of your inverted V, so make it removable so you can switch back and forth between 10 and 12 meters. The QT60 Pro is a great radio. I've had mine for a few months. I get great audio and signal reports. TNFrank and SteveShannon 2 Quote
TNFrank Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 I may hit HamStudy and check out the questions for General. It would be easy enough to just change wires on the Balum and have a set for 10M and 12M. Right now I'm having a lot of fun on 10M SSB 28.3-28.5MHz. SteveShannon and WRQC527 2 Quote

With a dipole you wouldn’t even need to change the wires. You can make a “fan dipole” by adding longer wires in parallel. RF will find the path of least resistance and flow primarily to the poles that have the least impedance. WRQC527 and TNFrank 1 1 Quote
TNFrank Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 I could also get another 1:1 Balun and put my wire on it so I'd just hang the one I wanted to use. It's only $25-$30 for the Balun so it'd not be much expense. Quote
WRYZ926 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 The main thing is that the spread sheet works for you. Steve and I were only making a suggestion. As far as dipoles go, you have several options. You can make separate antennas for each band, a fan dipole, or a linked dipole. With a linked dipole, you add or remove sections of wire depending on what band you want to work. You can do the same thing with an EFHW too. Linked dipoles and linked EFHW antennas are popular with some for POTA and SOTA. SteveShannon 1 Quote
