WRYZ926 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 You can use a Digirig or the Xiegu DE-19 sound card to connect the G90 to a computer. FT8 is like CW in that you can still make contacts using either mode when you can't make any contacts on voice modes. When band conditions are bad for SSB, you can still make contacts with CW and FT8. WRYS709, Davichko5650 and SteveShannon 2 1 Quote
hxpx Posted January 9 Posted January 9 KB9VBR is on 40m right now and apparently I can hear WI pretty well with my gutter antenna on 40m. Couldn't hear the NC or CT POTA activators, though, and I think I've worked both those states on 20m. Quote

Northcutt114 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I managed to hunt one today in Idaho. Second time I've talked to the guy. Question for the POTA activators. I know it's ten QSO's to activate the park. Does it have to be 10 QSO's on the frequency I spot myself on? Or can it be any QSO? Like, if I answer a CQ DX in the park, does that count? Quote
TNFrank Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 I got a contact with a guy I Hunted on the 5th again today at a different Park. There were some Parks that were showing up on the web site but when I'd tune to them I got nothing. It's just easier to work the Band up and down from 28.3MHz to 28.5MHz until I hear someone calling "CQ POTA". SteveShannon 1 Quote
Northcutt114 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I've only run across one guy that was calling CQ for POTA that wasn't spotted on the web page. A lot of the parks closer to me, I haven't been able to hear. But tonight was especially odd. I had three contacts in South America, all 59, but there was a POTA activation in the DR that I couldn't even hear. That's right in line with Brasil from my location. Weird that I couldn't hear it. But then, later on when I was answering a DX CQ, I heard a guy in Alabama also answering the call. Weird. My question, though, was does any CQ count towards an activation or does it have to be specifically on the spotted frequency and a response to my calling CQ? Quote

Be careful: When UTC crosses into a new day, no matter where YOU are, constitutes a new day and a new 10 activations. Any QSOs made from within that Park count. There is no requirement to call CQ POTA, but of course you must identify the Park by number during the QSO. Northcutt114 1 Quote
TNFrank Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 I got a QSO from Hawaii today at 5pm. He was coming in at 4/4, just above my noise floor but we exchanged Call Signs. From what I understand it'll count as another Country contact because it's not in the lower 48. The 10M Band wasn't that good today. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow. hxpx 1 Quote

And yes: Quote Even though Alaska and Hawaii are political units of the United States, they are separate DX entities (physically separate regions). They're also listed separately in the ARRL DXCC entities. SteveShannon and TNFrank 2 Quote
