See my YouTube channel for more info on them and the power stations I have. That way I don't have to get into it here. Ok: I have to take exception to your statement once and for all!! While French’s Yellow Mustard is good on a grilled burger, where’s the Heinz Ketchup?! Did I miss what appliance you grilled them on? Quote

I'm pretty sure the radio only pulls 45-50w when it's keyed up and transmitting. I'll double check tomorrow but so far things are working fine. If I do run into any issues I have a 12v/30 amp hour LiFePo4 battery I can hook up to and if that doesn't do it I'll bring my 100 amp hour battery out.LOL. P.S. I'm not Activating, I'm Hunting. Uh...if I'm not mistaken, there's no way an 80w radio is only pulling 45-50w when it's keyed up. It's more likely 100-120w. Quote

If the radio has a microprocessor and it sags too much you might see it click off (almost always while transmitting) and then power back on when the power supply catches up. I'm afraid that is exactly what he is going to see. I ordered something similar to use as a power supply for a 50w GMRS base station. The radio would routinely cut out on TX. I eventually returned it and quit cheaping out and bought a dedicated power supply. Quote

TNFrank Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 All in all I'd say this radio with the EFHW antenna is working pretty well. Once I get my General I'll do the jumper mod and open up 12M and 15M. SteveShannon 1 Quote
TNFrank Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 I couldn't cancel the 120v to 12v/15a converter so when it came in I gave it a try and yep, it's noisy. I also compared my 12v/30ah LiFePo4 battery to my solar power station and my noise floor stayed the same so I know the power station isn't causing any noise. On a side note I made a QSO with a really nice guy in N.Michigan and we chatted for a bit. My signal was coming in 5/7 which I think is pretty good for the little set up I have, especially in the afternoon when 10M is starting to shut down toward the East of my location. Anyway, just a quick update. 73 Northcutt114 1 Quote
WSHL413 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 The QT80 is a nice radio. Two of my first contacts as a new ham were located in Mexico and Chile using that radio and a 10-meter hamstick dipole about 19 feet above the ground at my home QTH. Made quite a few POTA contacts as a hunter with that radio and antenna on 10m. Good choice, and enjoy! TNFrank and SteveShannon 1 1 Quote
