Back in the day of linked repeaters, SWCRS had their Sunday net that would last for hours and my wife enjoyed the various subjects that were discussed and we were able to hear the Net continuously from West Texas to Phoenix. And as the various discussion subjects came up, she would asked questions. I was surprised she took an interest.

Radio is concealed.  Just the Nagoya 771G sticking out my back pocket.

Gladys at our Walmart would probably ask for a receipt if she saw a GMRS radio on someone. You could easily get away from her though. She's in a wheelchair and uses oxygen

I have those people trained.  No one has even mentioned anything about the radio.  I'm pretty surprised about that.  And the door checkers don't even bother with me anymore because I know my rights.  Just tell them no thank you and be on your merry way.  The only places that are allowed to check your receipts are membership stores where you signed a contract.

I'd tell them to call the cops on me before showing my receipt to them other than what I do already, wave it in the air to show that I have it.  I don't do self check out, if I did I would likely show it to them.

Most women and kids likely do not have the desire to use the radio as there is no need. Everyone has a cellphone in thier pocket and they can "connect" to whomever they want with their contact list by phone or message. When you can talk around the world with a cellphone but only a few miles with a radio that tends to limit interest. It may be easier to get the ladies and kids involved if doing an outside activity (hiking, fishing, camping, etc.) where everyone in the group will be in the same area and cell coverage may be less than adequate.
