taco6513
We have noticed this on a few occasions. When the mobile keys up the repeater fails to respond. Just does this for a few minutes or less. We thought is was maybe a power failure at the tower site. We have the repeater on battery back up then transfers to standby generator. So power failure is not the problem. Have been unable to get to of be at the repeater when this happens. It is just like its turned off.The repeater is a ICOM FR-4000. I have had it in service for several months. This has happened maybe 6 times. Any ideas? 0 berkinet
More information required. Since you haven’t been to the site since the problem started, how about these questions to start off... Does this happen to all radios or just some? Does it only happen after the repeater has been off the air for a while? Day, night or both? Have you checked the antenna SWR? Have you tried turning off PL on the input (if you can do that remotely)?
0 taco6513
Happens on multiple radios. Time of day doesn't matter. Also could happen after a few transmissions or after 45 minutes on the air. Both radios on the conversation are unable to raise the repeater.I am unable to check the SWR. Unable to turn off PL tone on repeater.
0 berkinet
Hmmm... ok, not much to go on, it could be a lot of things. But, it might be something at the site that is desensing your front end. If so, the problem could be in your receiver. But, more likely it is another transmitter. Just curious, are you using LMR400 feedline between the duplexer and the antenna? If so, how long has it been up there?
0 gortex2
The FR4000 does have some receiver issues. Mine has been to ICOM at least 4 times so far. Seems to have more issues in warm weather, but happened once in the winter. I'd do a full PM on the base and make sure its on frequency and doesn't have desense. berkinet
0 taco6513
Currently have maybe 16ft of LMR400Superflex. Only have antenna mounted on the 11ft pole beside the equipment shack. The antenna is a DB420.The interference problem is a good possibility. There is a repeater on VHF for the Sheriff's department. The rest is a WIFI. I was thinking It could be on purpose because of how random it is.WRCW870
