Tsavorite75 Posted July 3, 2020 Report Posted July 3, 2020 Hi I'm new here, I recently received my GMRS license and purchased a pair of Midland FRS 2 way radios. In the near future, I would like to get a MicroMobile GMRS unit. I understand that I am able to communicate with FRS on certain channels. What I am wondering is, am I allowed to use FRS radio in conjuction with the MicroMobile unit in the same room or vehicle, since I have a GMRS license?WRHW452 Quote
citizensoldier16 Posted July 3, 2020 Report Posted July 3, 2020 FRS radios do not require a license, and therefore can be used by anyone. You’ll be perfectly fine operating a GMRS radio with a license and an FRS radio at the same time. Quote
SteveC7010 Posted July 3, 2020 Report Posted July 3, 2020 The new Part 95 specifically authorizes communications between FRS and GMRS users subject to the power and bandwidth rules for each channel. berkinet 1 Quote
berkinet Posted July 3, 2020 Report Posted July 3, 2020 The new Part 95 specifically authorizes communications between FRS and GMRS users subject to the power and bandwidth rules for each channel. And further to @Tsavorite75's question. You can communicate between FRS & GMRS on any authorized FRS channel. That is, all FRS channels are authorized for GMRS, with the limitations @steveC7010 noted. However, be aware that the 8 GMRS repeater input channels are not authorized for FRS and will not appear on certified FRS radios. SteveC7010 1 Quote
Tsavorite75 Posted July 3, 2020 Author Report Posted July 3, 2020 Thank you all for the information this gives me a better understanding. Quote
Jones Posted July 3, 2020 Report Posted July 3, 2020 To make it real simple, and Midland friendly, Yes. You may talk between your FRS radios and your Micromobiles on channels 1-7, and 15-22. (NOTE: To make this even simpler, channels 8-14 are not even included on the Micromobiles - it skips over them.) Tsavorite75 1 Quote
Tsavorite75 Posted July 5, 2020 Author Report Posted July 5, 2020 Thank You Jones that does make it pretty simple. Ive always loved radio communications of all types and how they work. Jones 1 Quote
