Kenwood tk880 no audio, or voice

I have a Kenwood TK-880.  The audio and voice aren't working.  I can hear when I hold the monitor button.  It worked when I bought it.  I think I messed something up using the up/down keys on the right side.  Any ideas?

i'm not familiar with the model (i'm sure there are some here that are) to tell you exactly where to find the setting.

 

that said, since it works when you hold the 'monitor' button, that sounds like it's something with your squelch setting, either looking for a tone, or level set too high. there's some info on page 6 here (if you don't have a manual)

You likely may have changed the tone settings or OST. If you are unsure what happened or how, it may be best to simply re-program the radio with an older code plug you know works. This would rule out the user (programmed) side if the radio still does not give audio.

Really liked my 880 until I toasted it by ripping the antenna off and trying to transmit.. sizzle.  Have replaced with 8180.  Below is info on all you should need for the 880.

sounds like the RJ45 port (where the mic/programing cable plugs in) is bad, or one of the solder pads cracked. Simple fix if you know how to.

I reinstalled the software and programmed my frequencies.  It is working great.
