Thats why most people mount them under the dash or on the roof between the visors. Also you don't want a 2 to 3 lb radio flying at your passengers face at 200mph in an accident when the air bag deploys so make sure it is not on one of the air bag panels

This certainly should be a consideration, however, the thing in picture does not look like an airbag, rather control unit, that should be shielded. The actual airbags were in the way of my install on 2014 Durango. There are curtain airbags all around the roof, and I was not able to pull coax behind them - these suckers are on glue or something and packed tight. I routed coax through the rear, where are no airbags at the rear hatch.

I have a Midland MXT400 mounted in my 2007 Jeep JK overhead above the rearview mirror and a Midland MXT275 mounted in my wife's 2013 Ford Edge in the center console.

I mounted my MXT400 directly above the glasses/coin, etc. tray.  Don't think it will be a problem either.

EDIT:  I pasted 2 youtube URLs, but I'm only seeing large white space.  Are new forum accounts limited?

 

EDIT 2:  I removed the protocol part and now they are just text and viewable for copy/paste.

 

This guy mounted it between his seat and center console.  It looks like there's just enough room for the seat to not rub the radio.

These folks mounted it in the center console and used some third party parts to make convenience ports in the console itself for the mic and a USB charge port.  I've never had a radio like this, so I don't know if being enclosed like that would result in any heat problems.

Thanks for the suggestion; that's what I did.  I'll toy around with different versions like removing the h t t p s : / / 

Hopefully the forum software isn't "smart" and adds them back in....or if it does, it works.

 

I take it I'm not alone in them being blank?

Probably OK. Just observe precautions.

 

Ground the radio properly and as close to the radio as possible. Do not share a ground with the airbag control box. Look for some other bolt directly to the body or chassis and use a proper lug and serrated washer.

 

Make sure the antenna is properly terminated at the radio with a connector that is properly soldered or professionally crimped. Use an NMO mount antenna on the roof.

 

Get power directly from the battery with the fuse inside the engine compartment. If you need switched power, use a relay in series with the DC power cable.

 

Route your wires away from airbag wiring and components. You can cross an airbag wire harness at 90 degrees, but don't run parallel with it.
