WRKS279
Okay, I live in Maple Grove Minnesota, a suburb of the Twin Cities area. I am GMRS licensed (WRKS279). I would like to participate in the weekly myGMRS Net meetings but I don't know how. As far as I can tell there aren't any GMRS repeaters in my area that can reach the Midwest GMRS repeater, node #169 which is over in Illinois.. So, I don't understand how this works. Do we have to have a repeater in our area that is strong enough to reach the Illinois Midwest repeater? Or, is this "connection" somehow done through the Internet? Can someone please clarify how I can participate in the weekly MyGMRS Net meetings?
gortex2
You would need a repeater in your area. Additionally that repeater would need to be linked to the internet and the repeater owner would need to approve that "node" to be connected. While not really sure I was told someone had linked that net to Zello or something in the past. For me nets are a ham radio thing and I have no interest to link any of my repeaters to those. WRAK968
The Bronx Zoo repeater has a Zello node that connects to the net (if you wish to go that route)Otherwise, as KB2ZTX said, you would need to use a repeater that has access to the internet and the MyGMRS server. Also note, Node 169 is not a real repeater. It is a hub that is used for the regional nets, then is connected to the national hub later. There are 6 of these hubs, 169 Midwest, 172 Northeast, 174 Southeast, 175 Southern Plains, 176 Southwest, and 177 Mountain. Then there is the national hub (100) and AZ has their own network, 20400.Repeaters can also connect to one another as well, normally I run 23407 (my house) and 23409 (dads house)as a perm link. The system allows you to do that with ease. gortex2
Shadow471
As stated above your need to be able to reach a repeater that is linked into the net.First the Mid-West net and then its linked to the national on the Tech and national nets talks. The closest repeater to you on the net is a bit out of your range. WARSAW 650 Warsaw, MNContact the owner for permission and to see if they are allowing zello.
