I hit repeater all the way in Philadelphia! I'm in Easton MD. I was talking to people all the way in NY. Tonight was a really clear night, keep in mind, this is with an HT at 5 watts with a NA771. It's on .725 and has a PL of (PM me)

I was on an hour before Bill came on. I heard you in my backyard on my baofeng w/ a Nagoya 771

I hopped in the mobile to reach you as my mobile has more power to the repeater.

I later heard you on my base- on the roof I have an " ed fong /ebay" antenna - your signal was 5ish and strong.

That antenna is great with a baofeng btw.. 30.00!

Do you think we should make a listing for the it on the repeater database on here?

The Nagoya 771s are amazing.

What unit do you use for your base?

If you own that repeater, definitely get it listed.

I have a Ritron that was converted from public service and programmed for GMRS.

I have hit repeaters 25 miles away w/ the baofeng on 2m using the Ed Fong (25' up)

I am about 13' above sea level here on LI

Not sure about he elevation of the repeater in Philly but it must be 'up there' ...

Nice,

I don't own that repeater. So I think we should contact the owner to see if he wants it listed.

This is the antenna you have, right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Band-VHF-UHF-Base-Antenna-Ham-Commercial-MURS-GMRS-FRS-DBJ-1-/111415925312?pt=US_Radio_Comm_Antennas&hash=item19f0e81a40

In Post # 1 in this thread, an access code was mentioned in the open.  For owner security reasons, CTCSS and digital access codes should not be placed in the open forum.  If someone wishes to share that info with specific members, please do so by way of Private Messaging where search engine 'bots' can not see the info. Thank you.

Kevin, thanks for registering here at MyGMRS Forums.  Nice to have you with us.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't realize that. Unlicensed users could cause trouble.

Glad you guys enjoyed the QSO last night.  Basically what happened is we were repeater skipping.  You were listening on simplex but talking through your Philly repeater, which myself and Kevin (a member of my repeater group) were able to pick up.  In return we were were talking through our repeater group WB725NY to you and hearing your repeater on simplex.    If that makes sense, It was fun and maybe something we could try again.  I am not sure if it was weather or just how out systems are alligned but according to Google the systems are about 126 miles apart as the crow flies, the majority of that being over the water.   It was fun and great to talk to some of the group from other states.

BTW, the PL's for our machines do not match, no security issue for me.

Yes absolutely, this is the place to list your repeater if you wish for it to be somewhat public.   The main reason is for band cooperation.  So others know who, what and where the repeaters are so that nobody sets up on your doorstep.  Repeater cooperation is very important given the limited bandwith allotted to GMRS repeaters.

This isn't my repeater.

But that does make more sense. I'm still curious how I hit the Philly repeater with an HT. Must have been perfect conditions

Hello Guys,

See if the repeater owner wants to register it himself and he can also join in with us in the forums.Policy states the owner of a GMRS repeater has to register it themselves. We would be happy to have him on board and welcome him to register it...William

Can you PM me the information about the Philly repeater - if its that good I will contact the owner for permission to use it once in a while when I am up north here - and ask about what he is running - I am still researching and learning as I prepare to put up my own repeater in Florida.

Thanks

Dan

Might not be the longest ever, but after some feedline upgrading to Andrew 1/2 inch hardline, I can access one of our LAGGROUP systems 83 miles from my location. This is with a 25 watt TK863G Kenwood and a PCTel Maxrad MFB4605 omni at 43 feet.

On 'ducting days' I can access a system near the illinois/Wisconsin line 161 miles away.
