Well I received my V2 today . First thing I did was put on the meter. High power 4.45 low was 1.40 . I haven’t done any range test . I figure that it’s no more range then my V1 radios. With that said it’s a V1 with a few more features. As for the IP54 rating I don’t see anything that would give it that IP54 rating that the V1 doesn’t have . The flashlight seems to have a bigger bulb. Also the NOAA channels are programmed as is the repeater channel. In a way I wish I would have waited and saved up a little more money and bought a Wouxun KG905, KG935G. Or one of the Wouxun radios that are sold by Better Safe Radios.
Honestly I don’t see it being much more then the V1 radios so also figure the V1 has a IP54 rating also.

Did you try on various channels? In particular "8"-"14" which are supposed to be 0.5W Max.

I did recheck my units, this time with a dummy load. The V2, this time, did beat the V1 but not by much (essentially only a half watt higher for High power).

The GMRS-V1 is illegal for use on "8"-"14", at nearly 1.4W. The GMRS-V2 is legal at under 0.5W -- but note that this is a blanket <0.5W for Low power on the 467.xxx frequencies -- even the repeater inputs are <0.5W on low power! The 462.xxx frequencies show as just under 1W for Low power.

The Tyt MD-390, programmed with GMRS frequencies, is almost legal, at 0.65W on an NFM (eg, FRS bandwidth) 467.xxx freqeuncy. Strangely, in the 70cm band it was sold for, it only achieved 0.41W on low power. Whereas high power was low on 467.xxx at 2.7W; 426.xxx and 70cm were getting 3.22W.

I'm afraid the column spacing was lost between the Watt and Power level -- not a problem when power level is H or L, but for my meter comparison on the TS-2000, the power levels were 5, 25, 50 (UHF), 5, 25, 50, 100 (VHF): so that is 16.9W@25W (excel stripped the trailing 0 of 16.90).

The V2 channels 15-22 on high 4.45 on low 1.36 . Channels 23-30 on high I get 4.43 watts and on low 1.36 . On channels 8-14 I’m getting.36 watts.
The V1 channels 15-22 I’m getting 5.10 on high . On low 2.36 . On channels 1-7 on high 4.97 on low 2.26 watts.
Although on channels 1-7 and the battery charged to 8.2 I get 5.03watts high . Low I might get 2.30 . On channels 8-14 , 4.86 on low 2.30
On my other V1 radios I get anywhere from 4.93 watts on high and on low 2.30 . That’s average on the newer v1 radios .

I have the BTECH GMRS-V2 and I like it very much (for a CCR). It does CTCSS and DCS tones. It gets decent reception with the stock antenna. Slap on a 771G antenna and it gets pretty good reception. I give it to my kid to run around with. It gets left in damp fields overnight and dropped off of the bicycle and it keeps on ticking. I wish the belt clip were a little tougher, but it works. It is programmable with CHIRP and the ubiquitous Kenwood K-1 / USB programming cable. The battery lasts pretty good. I can hit all of the repeaters around me.

Skip the UV-5R. This would make an excellent first GMRS radio.

On my FARSOMETER 2000 (on GMRS channel 01) I get 4.04W on high and 1.26W on low.

On my frequency counter with a TCXO I see that my unit TX about 145Hz too high. I gotta get my SA set up so I can see these "spurious emissions".

EDIT:

I paid about $50 for my GMRS-V2. It has separate red and green RX/TX lights and the keyboard is backlit. Like on the UV-5R, the small letters/numbers on the screen (not the main ones) are hard to read because they are so small, but I'm old and my eyes aren't what they were.

EDIT EDIT:

Also, the battery is securely clipped in there, unlike on the UV-5R. I wish the battery contacts were gold plated, not just nickel plated, but they work just fine.
