Need help with repeater setup / radio programming

More less I need to figure out how to program the radios for a gmrs repeater I am setting up

I have a GMRS Repeater setup I purchased for my family for camping ect over a year ago just getting to set it up.

Here is what I have using 2 Motorola MaxTrac 300 Radios that have been configured for repeater use and a duplexer from china tuned to the corresponding frequencies.

462.600 TX Radio hooked to Low side of duplexer
467.600 RX Radio hooked to high side of duplexer
Antenna out on Duplexer to Antenna Tuned to GMRS Commercial frequencies by EdFong at 30ft in the air.

the radios were both programmed with DPL 125

 

Here is the issue I never programmed a radio to use dpl I am using chorp to program so baofengs and this is what i have so far which does not work. I assume dtcs is dpl

Actually I worked through chirp and got the repeater to work however when I try to transmit from the tx repeater radio via the mic all it does is break the squelch on the radios I am transmitting to. Perhaps a bad mic it is a aftermarket motorola mic maybe thats the issue. But I know the repeater it transmitting as the maxtrac has 6 channels if we use the programmed hand helds and i change the tx radio channel we no longer can hear  plus the busy and tx lights light up on both repeater tx rx radios when we are testing, Just would be nice to grab the TX Repeater radio mic and if I am at the base location....

I would have to look at my CHIRP file at home, but I have a UV5R working with one of my repeaters using DPL. I think what you showed there is right. So, you are saying you can talk through the repeater ok, but you cannot TX from the repeater radio and break the squelch on the portables?

Change your DUPLEX to (+) and your offset to 5.0000, and then the frequency to 462.6000. The way you have it set it is going simplex on the high side, so the other other radio, provided it is programmed the same, is hearing it simplex, but it is also keying the repeater although you are not hearing the actual output of the repeater. 

 

I see your HAM repeater below is set up correctly as a (-) duplex and 600k offset. 

 

Let us know if that fixes it.

If your monitoring from a Baofeng while keying the TX radio...chances are your also desensing the receiver on the Baofeng. Get about 100 feet away from the repeater antenna and see if that makes a difference.

Agreed. This UV5R is no gem in the RX department. 

 

I got a new truck and I have talked myself out of installing a Bearcat HP2 right now...I was wondering how the UV82 is for a receiver, would like to put a dual band portable in the truck with a battery eliminator to get my UHF stuff on but also hear city and county fire channels on. My UV5R is deaf once in the cab, but my P1225 is fine. Would rather leave a radio I can afford to replace in the truck these days...people will steal anything.

I just bought a new one too. I haven't gotten around to even doing temporary installs (I have until Saturday morning). Carrying an Astro Saber and XPR6550 around the Permian Basin for basic comms. Don't even have an AVA for the Saber. Have the antenna, console and radios (for now) picked out. Just haven't purchased the console or gotten busy with the antenna.
