WRUT470
Can someone please tell me the difference in a repeater when I see the tones/PL listed as a number with Hz after it and some listed as a number and DPL after it. When I program my radio with a PL that has a Hz after it I use Tx/ctc in the menu to do that. If the PL has a number and DPL after it what would I use to program my radio for Tx I am new to this and appreciate the help Thanks!
kidphc
If using programing software and a cable You would program the frequency in the software, use the selection usually under tones for DPL next to it should be a pulldown to enter the Tone. CTCSS or PL is a subaudiable tone that is carried with your transmission, usually at the beginning. DPL is just DIGITAL PL tone. Usually, they will have a slight delay, so give a 1-2 second pause after clicking the PTT before you speak. This delay is caused by machine decoding the tone. For front panel programming on the radio, it is much the same, just have the manual in front of you so you know where the items are in the menu. SteveShannon
Also, DCS is what most companies call it. DPL is just what Motorola calls theirs.
WRUT470
I don’t have a cable or software yet. I am just using my radio keypad. So when I go to menu on my radio keypad I am to select tx/dcs for codes that use DLP/DCS? I just want to make sure I’m entering this correctly. Thanks for clearing up DLP/DCS much appreciated! DCS : Digital Coded Squelch CTCSS : Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System Motorola "PL" : Private Line (which is anything BUT... Anyone not using tones can hear everything, it only means the user of the tones does NOT hear anything except transmissions with the required tone). Listings with a number with N or I (normal or inverted) are DCS. Depending on the radio programming, turning on a CTCSS or DCS setting should turn OFF the other -- but you may want to to double-check. If the frequency is "noisy" (kiddies with FRS noise-makers) you may also want to enable the corresponding Rx tone to block them out.
WRUT470
Ok awesome this helps for sure! I will try to input this tonight. As I was scrolling through my menu options I did see the TX/DCS option. Now I understand where to input these codes and if there is frs chatter I can enter the RX/DCS code to eliminate that. Thanks!!
