WRTH574 Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 For Christmas I got a GMRS radio for each of my boys, both of whom are teens. While I'm covered with a license for the whole family I wasn't prepared for what they did. I guess I should have seen this coming, but the next thing I knew they were playing music to each other, kerchunking, and screaming on channel 9. We had to sit down and have a little talk about etiquette. SteveShannon 1 Quote
WRKC935 Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Well you will have that. I assume that they now understand that there are others using the channels and that sort of stuff isn't really welcomed? Or something to that effect. Hopefully they will continue to use the radios and enjoy them. And I believe that's an FRS shared channel. So everyone that heard it probably figured it was a couple kids with bubble pack radios so I wouldn't get too concerned with the feds kicking in your door and dragging you away. Quote
MichaelLAX Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 At least they were far-sighted enough to use an ultra-low powered FRS channel! Quote
tweiss3 Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Also, remind them that anything said or done on the radio isn't private, anyone can hear it. That usually brings some perspective. Quote
catbrigade Posted December 29, 2022 Report Posted December 29, 2022 My kids aren't old enough to have the maturity for proper handling of "real" GMRS radios, so I keep my good ones locked up. They have a couple of little blue radios that run about a quarter watt at most, and I keep them on the FRS channels only. Quote
