Hi, I'm a GMRS newbie so, of course I bought one of the most capable/complicated radios possible (LOL): the new Btech GMRS-Pro. I'm slowly figuring out how to program/operate this thing by reading the manual over and over - and by watching every YouTube video I can find on it - and by reading posts/reviews on here and elsewhere. The one thing that continues to baffle me is how to use the scan function. For example, I have looked up all of the fire/rescue/EMS/police/etc frequencies used in my area on RadiaReference.com and programmed them into a new channel group (setting the "Allow Scan" to true for each). What I'd like to be able to do now is have the radio scan just those channels/frequencies, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do that. When I switch the radio to that channel group and hit "Scan" at the bottom... it just stays on whatever frequency was selected before I hit "Scan"... and doesn't move - or at least gives no indication that it's scanning. Similarly, I'd like it to scan the standard GMRS and repeater channels defined in the default channel group 1 when I switch back to that channel group. Same story there.

I have gone to the "Scan" screen - discussed on page 32 of the manual - and set the start and end frequencies and got it to scan that way, but it just goes through the entire frequency range defined stepping by the frequency interval specified (default is 0.5KHz) - for the purpose of finding active channels - I suppose to aid you in creating a channel group. Don't want that... just want it to scan the specific frequencies/channels I've already defined in my channel groups. Is that possible? If so, how?

Thanks!

Hmmm... 81 views with NO responses so far. I guess this radio is still too new... not enough other user experience on here yet. I'll take my question to BTech directly and report back here with an update if/when they respond.

I don’t have one. I looked at the manual and other than the frequency scan you already mentioned I don’t see any other scan function.

On mine, the top button on the side (just below the PTT button -- also the "up" channel button) to scanning. You hold it in for a couple seconds starts scanning the channel group. It shows "Scanning" on the screen where the second channel would be, if you were monitoring two channels.

The other way I get it to scan is to go into the menu on the device (bottom left green "hockey stick" button), scroll down to "Radio Settings," scroll down to second option (Scan), and make sure the box is checked. Should see "Scanning" on home screen when you exit out of the menu.

You can also do it through the app -- three bar menu button in app -> all the way at the bottom you'll see a "Scan" check box.

Hope this helps!

I just realized while double-checking the menus for my reply that you may have "Dual Watch" check box marked when you go to "Radio Settings" in the menu. If that's the case, the radio won't scan. It uses the second band as the "scanning" channel and the primary band stays put.

Running into a similar issue.  Scan seems to work fine but not for regular GMRS channels if I'm scanning other channels.

Are you trying to scan 2 or more channel groups at the same time?  It will only scan one group at a time.

You need to go into the channel and make sure you have the scan check box checked. Then when you scan it will only scan the channel’s you have check marked.
