Chirp and baofeng

jswed

Question

Just received baofeng uv-5g(uv-5x). I have downloaded chirp and the program is in my files. I return to the beginners guide page and see my next step is to start chirp and click the radio menu and choose download from radio.

Problem is, I can't find where to start chirp and can't find download from radio command.

Any help will be appreciated.

What kind of computer are you on? If you are on a Mac and you downloaded Chirp already it will be in your downloads folder. First plug your radio in to the computer via programming cable and make sure radio is on. Click on Chirp in downloads folder to open. Then click on “Radio” in the upper left corner. Click on “download from radio”.

laptop is Microsoft windows. Radio is plugged in, volume up and antenna detached. In my files, the only item showing is chirp-next-20230718-installer (1).exe When I click on it, command is to install it again. Also, I do not see a screen anywhere like the screenshot you sent me.

Ok, after trying to download chirp, I started getting messages that said there were no drivers. I tried to install drivers but I got messages saying drivers could not be found. My operating system was windows 8. Since my last post, the laptop with windows 8 crashed.  My new laptop arrived today and is running windows 11. Tried downloading chirp again and cannot due to some S mode mumbo jumbo. I want to bypass this S mode but message says once you get rid of the S mode, you can never get it back. I guess it is some sort of protection. I've got 3 radios to program and I really want to use the chirp software. Any help with getting around this S mode stuff would be greatly appreciated.
