FWIW, you can flash the UV-13 Pro (Amateur Radio version of this radio) onto the GM-15 PRO and it removes the odd channel formatting.

Not sure what you are saying here, but in my experience the CPS code plugs created for my UV-13Pro, get corrupted when I open them up in my Pofung UV-15, which is a clone of the GM-15Pro.

I think he’s saying to install the firmware for the UV-13 Pro into the GM-15 Pro, and then you would be able to load configuration files created with the UV-13 Pro.

Pretty sure that's what I did.  I don't think I used pv-15 software afterwards.  I'll crack open the laptop later to confirm and type out the steps I took.  Sorry! Didn't mean to cause more confusion.

I would love to hear your method of flashing UV-13Pro firmware over to the GM-30 a/k/a UV-15Pro a/k/a Pofung UV-15UV

The link to Chirp by the previous "ghost" poster does list many people wanting to help out, but so far none of them has cracked the problem why Chirp does not support these radios.

The Radioddity GM-30 cps programming software (windows only) does work.

The steps to update the firmware for GM-15 Pro to become a UV-13 Pro can be found below - however, do this at your own risk. This will violate FCC's part 95E and if performed incorrectly, could brick your GM-15 Pro.

I am not an expert, but I purchased two GM-15 Pro's and they are useless to me without the TX function. I spent the time learning (and bricking) my radios to provide a guide so that you don't have to

Software required:

Radioddity's GM-30 program (https://radioddity.s3.amazonaws.com/Radioddity GM-30 V1.05.exe) - I don't know how long Radioddity will keep this CPS file on their site.

Radioddity's P15UV program (https://www.hamradioshop.pl/pliki/Baofeng/Baofeng_P15UV.zip) - I don't know how long HAM radio shop will keep this CPS file on their site.

UV13-Firmware BIN file (https://chirp.danplanet.com/attachments/8905) - I don't know how long chirp will keep this BIN file active on their site

Step by Step:

plug the GM-15 Pro in with programming cable
turn the GM-15 Pro on
run the radioddity GM-30 program (mock of GM-15)
read from the radio, make sure connection is working properly
once read, turn the GM-15 Pro off
hold PTT and flash light button (under PTT) together, turn the radio on
Note: Display should be off, red light should be on - this is firmware upgrade mode
in GM-30 radioddity program, go to tools - this is where you update firmware
select the UV-13 Pro firmware package
choose upgrade

this will flash the UV-13 Pro firmware
Radio will reboot itself after firmware upgrade

Close GM-30 program software, it will no longer work as a GM-30 radio

run the radioddity P15UV program (mock of UV-13)
read from the radio, make sure this is working properly
Modify the radio
Write to the radio

Instructions from Radioddity themself on upgrading GM-30's firmware

Good luck!

Unknown on the GM-30.

I suspect it will work. From what I've read, it's a very similar codeplug and firmware, but I have not sacrificed one to determine that.

Ok, thanks!  I have a Pofung clone of the Radioddity GM-30 around here somewhere and I would like to open it up!

My impulse buy of the Baofeng UV-12 arrived today and its a nice addition for about $21.  I has the look and feel of an FRS radio at about 2-3 watts but it is their "FRS" version of a Ham Radio, and it is open.

There is supposedly Baofeng software available to program it.   In the meantime, I programmed it with Chirp using the Retevis RB27 designation for the Read template.
