WRXX537 Posted September 24, 2023 Report Posted September 24, 2023 I know that GMRS stands for General Mobile Radio Service and that FRS stands for Family Radio Service as outlined by the FCC but what does “HT” refer to. Am I correct to think it stands for Handheld Transceiver be it a Ham radio, Frs or GMRS? Trying to learn Thanks WRXX537 Quote
wrci350 Posted September 24, 2023 Report Posted September 24, 2023 Or "Handie Talkie". A portable handheld radio; what many call a "walkie talkie". WRXB215 and Radioguy7268 1 1 Quote
WRXB215 Posted September 24, 2023 Report Posted September 24, 2023 @wrci350 is correct. It's an old military term if I recall. Quote
Guest Posted September 24, 2023 Report Posted September 24, 2023 If I may add the wisdom of Wikipedia: The SCR-536 was a hand-held radio transceiver used by the US Army Signal Corps in World War II. It is popularly referred to as a walkie talkie, although it was originally designated a "handie talkie".[1] SCR-536 - Wikipedia Quote
