WSBR718 Posted March 9 Report Posted March 9 Are there any GMRS clubs in the Houston Area? WRXB215 1 Quote
WRXB215 Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Not that I know of. If you find one, let me know. Quote
WSBU687 Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 I have not found any either. I just got into GMRS and hear a lot of communication on the repeater channels but have not been able to make contact with anyone on them. Quote
WRXB215 Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 @WSBU687 try Texas GMRS.net. There are repeaters listed there that are in your area that usually have traffic. Quote
Darmie Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 Yes very active group of great people on the Texas GMRS . net Most of the repeaters are linked so if you are in Conroe you can communicate to Dickinson and so forth. There are other operators that access the network as well. Take a look at the status page. I have recently joined myself. https://link.texasgmrs.net/link.php?nodes=2250,2251,2252,2253,2254,1000,922 Quote

WRXB215 Posted May 26 Report Posted May 26 @WRXI489 I don't know of any GMRS clubs in area but if you post your current settings we may be able to help. Just smear out the actual tones if they aren't posted publicly. SteveShannon 1 Quote

Maybe a sentence or two per month. Quote
MSnow Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 There is no club so to speak, but there is a very busy bunch of repeaters. I think you need to signup for a free membership to get access to the repeaters. look up Texas GMRS Network on facebook, or go to their website to get access to the repeater network. For what it's worth the original poster I hear him on that network all the time. WRXB215 1 Quote
WSCZ240 Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 I am a member of mygmrs. From MyGMRS I see there is a repeater in Magnolia and one in Conroe. Is it true that I should be able to hear part of the conversation without being linked in with them? If so, both seem to be out of range for me because I’ve never heard anything from them. I’ll be getting a new radio soon. Maybe it will have better range. Quote
WRXB215 Posted May 31 Report Posted May 31 @WSCZ240 In the greater Houston area we have a lot of obstruction. Trees, buildings, overpasses, etc. Sometimes moving a very short distance suddenly clears up a signal. Good antennas help, and more wattage to get though the trees, but height is the biggest factor to a good signal. Edit: Just noticed that this is my 666th post. Better post again real quick. Quote

Magnolia is small foot print for just a neighborhood off Toll249, you cant even get it on Toll249 because of all the 80ft tall pines, I think its only 40ft tall. They are all linked however so you find one you can hear and you can hear them all. You do however need a Texas GMRS Network login which is free to access them. They are separate from myGMRS for some reason. WRXB215 1 Quote
WSCZ240 Posted June 2 Report Posted June 2 Finnally found the Texas gmrs .net site. Waiting to be approved. Looks like I am on the very edge of 2 repeaters but not comfortably within any. I know the edge of those lines are not real circles and a little fuzzy at the ends, So, I think they don’t reach me. Waiting on the new radio to test it. MSnow 1 Quote

If you can get an antenna up high enough, you'd be surprised how far you can reach. But then again, that can get very expensive if you need to go very high. Quote
