WSAQ499 Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 I live in kentucky and am new to radios. I was looking at the nets map and it doesn't appear that any net systems or repeaters are covered to connect to nets. Quote
Guest Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 Kentucky looks like it has many repeaters. I don’t know if they are near you. You would have to get active on a repeater and see if they have a weekly net. Many do some do not. I net is just a weekly radio check in and gathering. Quote
WSAQ499 Posted March 27 Author Report Posted March 27 The only repeater in my area is the glascow repeater. There is Kars in Louisville that I got permission to use when I go up there, it's not I'm range of my home, and haven't gotten it programmed right yet I guess. Quote
gortex2 Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 Not all repeaters have nets. If that why you got into GMRS you may be missing the boat. None of my repeaters handle net traffic and never will. That was more of a ham thing thats been dragged to GMRS. Quote

Unfortunately there is no "What to expect from GMRS" introductory section on MyGMRS. It would outline the basic uses for GMRS, what it's for, what it's really not for, and how to make it work for you. Its been said here many times. It's more of a tool for short-range communications among friends, family, groups of like-minded folks out on the trail, camping, hunting, that kind of thing. Repeaters extend the range, but they're not social clubs like they are in amateur radio. Quote
