Why is Technical Discussion format different from the others?

Recommended Posts

You can sort it by date (just under the 1st post), but it really does make trying to follow a discussion damn near impossible if you don't immediately realize that you're in "that" forum.

It's not about popularity, it's about technical correctness. It's the same way with Stackoverflow. Answers are "peer reviewed" and the OP can get a better idea of which answers to trust.

This!  The answer voted highest will be the first one a person sees after reading the question.

WTF does voting have to do with how the Technical Discussion forum is presented? When I click into a subforum that I follow, I want to be able to see which topics/threads have been updated since my last visit. It is simple to look down the right hand column to see if a specific FORUM has been updated on the main page, but when you click into the main page of the TECHNICAL subforum, you have no way of discerning whether 2, or 2 dozen, threads have been updated without opening each thread. Sorry, I do not have instant recall of how many "votes" or "answers" were tallied at my last visit. None of the above responses make sense.

A reply above did make sense.  See this on the first post of the thread when you open the topic:

That is how you do it.

Well, I guess for whatever reason you have a different display than I do...

No, the forum is like that for everyone, where your at right there in your screenshot.

When you open one of the topics then you can choose by date.

RIGHT! So I have to open EVERY topic to see which topics have been updated...UNLIKE any of the other forums on this site, and 99% of forums on dozens of other sites that I follow more or less regularly.

Yes you do have to do every one.

I know its a chore to actually have to click the topic, and in this case, click one more button and scroll, but everyone else who participates here manages that extra button without over exerting themselves as far as I know.

or you can just select unread content and see what has been updated that you haven't read.

I used to enjoy responding to requests for technical information for which I had some connection or past experience.

But given the format here, not so much.

I am not really looking for a "work around" to being able to do what @808Beachbum sees as a problem (and I do, too).  I just want to read updated comments in those threads where I am quoted or I have a separate interest.

Some of us are much too busy, trying to make sure we have turned on Roger Beeps on all our newly acquired radios...
