dosw Posted June 15 Report Posted June 15 What's 'pro' about this one versus the UV-5G? Just curious. It looks exactly the same. Quote

WRQC527 Posted June 15 Report Posted June 15 Apparently "pros" need to receive air band, 1.25 Mhz and 1 Mhz to be considered pros. Quote

Yeah, the 5G Pro supposedly does Air Band, but is it useful? the 5Gs are all FM, while Air Band is all AM (or am I wrong about that?) Quote

FM for TX/RX, but depending on the way the SOC and other components are set up, no reason it cant receive AM. My AR-5RM does Airband RX. Quote

I think air band receive on a GMRS or amateur radio is a gimmick with little or no real-world use. I'd be telling tall tales if I said air band is exclusively AM, because I don't know. I do use it occasionally to listen to air traffic, but only because the radios receive it. Air band would not influence my buying decision one way or another in the least. AdmiralCochrane 1 Quote
WRQI663 Posted July 4 Report Posted July 4 Air band is AM because the FM capture effect will prevent a weaker signal from being heard, when using AM two signals can be heard at the same time with one causing a hetrodyne (remember all the noise on AM CB?) ATC can hear them AdmiralCochrane 1 Quote
