I believe that coax is a copper clad aluminum center and copper clad aluminum braiding. After releasing PTT there would be a low pitch screech which would sometimes continue activating the repeater for a few seconds. PL-259 is simply the connector, also referred to historically as the UHF connector. The actual cable type should be marked on the jacket of the cable. The coax on the UT-72 is RG-58A/U which I believe is tinned copper for the braid.

But one thing to be aware of is the power attenuation that happens at GMRS frequencies in RG-58A/U. It’s not insignificant as something I wrote recently was corrected. Folks, I finally creaed a simple base station with my GMRS radios, thank you for all your advices. After reasearching further, I noticed that this Retevis RB91 that comes with its own 2 way radio enhances the distance for the hand helds without the need of a GMRS base station more on a private level. Is this repeater legal here in the US? Does FCC allow the use of this repeater with our GMRS licenses?

WSDU214
@Socalgmrs thank you for your quick response. So this UHF repeater is not legal to use in the US per FCC correct?
WRXB215
@WSDU214 You aren't allowed to use digital on GMRS except for very short bursts i.e. location or short text message.
