Official Method of asking for permission?

Trying to connect too two local reporters and wanted to make sure I had asked for permission the correct way. I’m brand new to this but have been using radios for years. Forgive my noob question!

1. If possible, request it through myGMRS.
2. If you have the channel and tone(s), set up your radio, key up, identify yourself, and...ask.

If they’re on the map or in the repeater database associated with this site, just click “request permission“ and fill in the form.

Click request access.

Otherwise ask on the repeater and go from there.

The best answer I have received on this question is, if the tones are listed, and it's set to open, it's almost always a go-ahead, but never hurts to ask or give thanks when using the repeater. As I was told when I asked most people tend to want you to use their repeater if its status is open with the tones listed. I did just that, I programmed my handheld, and the next time I was near enough, I announced myself and asked for a radio/mic check and also thanked the owner of the system. Have not had any problems or anything as of yet.
