Maricopa County Towers Mountain 600

Recommended Posts

Seems to be a lot of discussion on the repeater page about no response to permission requests. You may want to try snail mail to the owner or try contacting someone who has knowledge about the site locally. One poster said the repeater is open even though it’s listed as request required.

If you find out what the status is share the info please. I travel out that way occasionally and would be curious.

The Towers 600 repeater owner has changed the PL encode and restricted the use as the repeater owner of the Towers 575 and Shaw Butte repeaters has done. It is unknown when the two repeater owners will allow open use of their respective repeater for the General user.

As far as I know, Shaw Butte hasn't changed tones. I think he's just been turning it off at times due to someone constantly disrupting. One of the rumors that I've heard is that he knows who it is, but I don't know if anything has been done beyond that.

I've had a request in for Towers Mountain 600 since May of this year to hopefully get the new tones, and have heard nothing back. It's a shame too, both that and 575 have some amazing coverage throughout the area.

They know exactly who it is that's causing the problem. He even gives his call sign during those episodes. I have heard some traffic on Shaw Butte and I go I try to use the site with the previous tones but no luck. I finally got approval for Towers 575 but the tone I was told to use by the owner either does not exist or was a typo/transposed. So, bavk to square one.

I'm starting to wonder if it's something wrong on site with the repeater. Maybe one of the storms we've had caused some damage to the antenna or cable? I was headed east on Cactus from a friend's house in Peoria, and what I was hearing on the mobile was kind of in and out. I used to be able to hit it pretty reliably from inside the house with my HT, and now it's hit or miss. It's also sounding pretty scratchy when I'm listening. I really miss having access to both of the Towers Mountain repeaters. Those 2 probably have the best footprint of any of them in the state, including the 2 I've used on Mt Lemmon.

The problem child was creating havoc on both Towers repeaters and Shaw Butte. It is believed that he may be causing problems on other repeaters in the area. So far my repeater hasn't been affected, yet.

I hear the Station IDs being transmitted but no repeat traffic on Towers 600 and Shaw Butte. I believe the respective repeater owners have shutdown the receivers. I do hear simplex traffic and I have heard the problem child on 575 simplex stirring up the havoc with a few people. It appears that Saturday and Sunday mornings appear to be the best days for his doings.

The Towers 575 owner has given permission to a few people and I hear them occasionally.  I recently have been granted permission but the tone information he sent me was either a typo/transposed so I am unable to get into the repeater and I am waiting for clarification from him on the tone.

The Shaw Butte Repeater is back on the air with both the same local and link tone inputs, at least for now.  It does appear that the Links have been deactivated because in the Link mode the Towers 600 repeater just stays idle unless that repeater is not on-line.  I'm too far away for Pinal to check to see if the Link is activated.

Hopefully, the repeater owner for the Towers 600 repeater will get that repeater back on-line so we have coverage on the off-road trails in that area.

I still have yet to receive a response to my request. I've been on Pinal Peak lately.

yeah i sent a request a couple weeks or so ago, but considering some have been on here months+ i'm not holding my breath, i'm in PRC so options are limited, was hoping a crown king tower might reach here and my buddy in peoria

You should have pretty good coverage in Peoria from the Shaw Butte repeater.  I can hit that one from my 25 watt mobile from way out in Gilbert.  You're far closer to that one being in Peoria.  I've heard the Sunday net check-in on the Pinal repeater but didn't chime in.  I'm pretty sure I have the encode/decode tones right for that one.

You need to have and use an assigned leading PT-T ID with MDC 1200 signalling for Pinal. The PT-T ID is assigned to members of the SWCRS.
