AndyOnTheRadio Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 I was granted access to a repeater in my area. It comes through loud and clear. But what I notice is that there are check-ins from people 3-4 states away. I thought this was just a local repeater. I have reached out to the owner, but have not heard back. Thanks! Quote
Guest Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 So 1st if it’s linked it’s against the rules. (Let’s not get into this again). 2nd how big are the states? I’m in California and can talk to Nevada and Arizona on one repeater. It has a radius of well over 200 miles. 3rd how far are you from the repeater? What radio are you using? What antenna are you using? Do you have line if sight to the repeater? 4th the best way to learn about a repeater is to be patient and wait to hear back from the owner. Quote
WRHS218 Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 It is probably a linked repeater. If you don't hear from the owner you could try to figure out where the folks are that you hear checking in and see if you can find the repeater they are using. Or you could ask someone who is checking in what system they are on. They may or may not answer since linking is a touchy subject these days. WSEZ and WRUU653 1 1 Quote

Perhaps the repeater goes farther than I thought. Quote
Guest Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 There is really no way of knowing until your able to talk to users or owner. Quote
UncleYoda Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 I know the one Andy's referring to. It is the one that's linked nationally (and was the focus of my Linking is back thread before it got derailed with "meaningless jibber jabber"). Quote
WRXB215 Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 There may be some people still using nodes. If that is the case, they could be anywhere there is Internet. Quote
