Chunky1 Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 Does the RT97S have to be powered up to use the programming software? I had read some where that this is not the case. I just received mine and wanted to create a base file before adding any CTCSS or other configurations to it. After downloading the software from Retevis I have tried with no success using the programming cable supplied with the unit which is USB to 9 pin serial port. It tells me to check my connections. Thanks in advance, WSCF376 Quote
Guest Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 I don’t think so. It needs power to start and run the radio. It doesn’t take many amps since your not transmitting. Quote

Chunky1 Posted November 15 Author Report Posted November 15 The only difference is as stated, I am using the supplied USB/9pin serial port cable. I will need to get a different programming cable to connect to the power connection which was not supplied with the unit. I am only guessing there is a difference, not sure. Quote
WRXB215 Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 (edited) @Chunky1 does the supplied cable connect to what appears to be a serial port? Edited November 15 by WRXB215 typo Quote
Chunky1 Posted November 15 Author Report Posted November 15 It does along with the power connector. Quote
Chunky1 Posted November 15 Author Report Posted November 15 After ensuring comm port is selected and correct, the PC still can’t see the repeater. Quote
WRXB215 Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 This is starting to make sense to me. I don't think I've ever seen a serial cable that delivered data and also power. There are however USB cables that deliver data and power. That being said, I think you are right that you will have to get the other cable so that you can deliver the power and data. Or just connect power and data separately. Quote

Thanks in advance, WSCF376 Yes, the "S" version needs power to program it. After watching all the videos of the non "S" version which does not need to be powered to program I figured the same thing. But as soon as I powered it up programming went as it should. Quote
