Antennas, comet gp3, gp9

I'm new to gmrs but also a tech ham operator, I'm wondering if I can get away with using either of these antennas for gmrs.

The only way to know for sure is to test them with an antenna analyzer. That being said. Yes the GP9 does work just fine on GMRS. You will generally see a SWR of 1.8 or less on 467 MHz.

The GP-9 2m/70cm antenna sucks at GMRS, at least in my case. If you have a SWR meter or VNA test it out yourself, your results may vary....

And that is why I stated to test it with an analyzer. Myself and a few others use the GP9 and they all have good SWR on 2m, 70cm, and GMRS.

Although 3:1 isn’t optimal, it definitely deserves a yes answer to the question the OP asked: “Can I get away with using either of these antennas?”

I had a 712efc got 200miles gmrs.   Went with a 9nc and now get 250miles full quieting.  Simplex.  It’s up 25’ to the base plus the 17’ of the antenna.     I’m at 4500’.  I’m the other direction I’ve  got 10,000 ft mountains behind me and a repeater 35miles away in the other side of the mountains at 2000’.  I can hear and talk on it with the 9nc and my 50w base station.   I radiate about 675w. Loveed my 712 and an looove the 9nc and picks up murs just fine

Like I said, your results may vary. The SWR on mine (again 2m/70cm version) is less than desirable on GMRS. However the GP-6NC GMRS version has as close to perfect SWR on GMRS (what it was designed for) as you can get and has a decent SWR across 70cm and 2m as well.
