WSBW358 Posted Wednesday at 09:17 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:17 PM Please forgive me if it has been covered but I couldn't find anything addressing the following: I just bought a repeater/ duplexer and want to set it up. Does the repeater need a separate license or do I use mine? How do I register the repeater on this website? Might seem simple to some, but like i said, I can't find any obvious links on the page or any results when searching. Thanks Quote
SteveShannon Posted Wednesday at 09:26 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:26 PM Your license is the repeater license. For GMRS there are only licenses for individuals. To add a new repeater go to the map page, click on My Repeater, then Owned Repeaters, then click on the button that says Add Repeater. But I strongly suggest you not add it until your repeater is up and running. Raybestos, WSDM599, WRUU653 and 2 others 5 Quote
Socalgmrs Posted Wednesday at 09:28 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:28 PM No a repeater does not need a license. It is not a person and a gmrs license is for people. as for adding the repeater on this site just go to my repeaters and add it. do you really need a repeater? TrikeRadio 1 Quote

When some repeaters auto transmit their ID... many in Morse Code... what is that then if it is not a "license" ? is it the owner's GMRS Callsign or is it something else? Quote

Yes it is the repeater owner's call sign. WRUU653, TrikeRadio and SteveShannon 3 Quote

It’s the operator’s call sign, which is usually the owner. All stations, whether handheld or repeaters, must be operated by someone with a license. The station itself isn’t licensed though. So while it’s technically correct to say that repeaters aren’t licensed, it’s not helpful. The operator is licensed and that’s whose call sign is transmitted. WRUU653 1 Quote
