Radioddity GM-30 Plus Phantom Receptions Disabling Units

Question

Posted

I own two Radioddity GM-30 Plus HTs. Sometimes they receive signal on every possible channel (GMRS, Ham, Airband, etc.) indicated by the green light on top, but my other HTs show nothing.

So it seems like they're picking up interference of some kind, that nothing else is receiving. And it's happening on both units. When this happens, it happens for hours at a time and they're basically unusable for anything. Very frustrating.

According to the "Radio Info" setting, they are:

Radio: 100
Firmware: Ver 0.06
Hardware: Ver 1.30

Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?

Welcome to owning a radioditty.  I’ve never seen one that worked right.   I don’t get why any one needs to change firmware.  I’ve owned 100s of gmrs radios and never once had one do anything like this and I’ve never down firmware upgrades. With all the issues these and other radios have on this very site I’ll never understand why they are even still In Business.   Don’t agree? Take a look up and down this forum alone let alone on her forums.

Yes,  be sure you don’t have it on dual watch.  I had my bottom channel set to a frequency that had activity or active interference on it without realizing it. I kept wondering why I was hearing stuff even though there was no activity on the upper/larger channel A. Since then I keep dual watch turned off.

Is this in your car or house or office?

In the car, many dashes are now digital screens, and a screen can cause interference in the UHF band. I've seen it be bad enough that my HT gets better reception on my hip at the 7:30 position where my body is between the radio and dash, even if it's way less than ideal pinned between a body and seat frame.

In your house or office, you should try tracking the interference down. Keep it away from the screens and/or computer tower. It's amazing what 3 feet of separation can do.

As mentioned above, double check your dual watch setting.
