Local inland empire gmrs club.

Hi all while I wait for my license I’ve been talking with a neighbor about local repeaters and clubs and what not.  I’m in the inland empire south east of Los Angeles.  I travel for work all day long through riverside and down into San Diego and up into the OC.  and would love to be able to have comms while driving as well as back to the house.   I got into gmrs for simplex while hunting and general out doors however the local repeaters seam usefull BUT at $85 a year seams pricey especially with the horrible reputation this particular club has in the area.  Many of my friends, co workers and neighbors are into gmrs mostly for off road use and they all say to steer clear of the drama with other repeater owners and the fcc and even courts.  Has any one heard of this particular group?

Maybe?  It would probably help if you told us the name of this particular group.

Sounds like you have already made your decision.  I only know of one group in that area that has a “membership fee” like that.  I’d say you would have to join to find out if it’s right for you.  I’m pretty sure you could get your money back if it didn’t work out.

You might be thinking of the Mesa Crest Repeater Club and/or the Crest Communications Repeater Club. They are both membership fee based and have repeaters that cover the subject areas.

The annual membership fee for the Crest Communications club is $35/year so the $85/year membership fee may be for the Mesa Crest club.
