If his friends/Trail Dudes are using FRS radios the OP may be forced to go narrowband since most or if not all FRS radios are only narrowband emissions. -

I need some help with my MXT275 and Repeaters
WSIF274 replied to WSBB519's topic in General Discussion
I should also add (Gotta give back to the community): It looks like if the firmware is R9 (Enables Split Tones and I think wide-band). So now in the menu instead of "Pt" for Privacy Tone, they have "tC" for Transmit Tone, and "rT" for Receive Tone! -

Midland strikes again. -
As already stated gmrs and frs are the same. You have your call sign so you told the fcc you understood the rules Before you paid the fees. I think you have a lot of learning to do. Might want to go back and actually read the rules this time and not just click through. You are already responsible for knowing them. And you don’t know the basics so please go learn. And sorry to here about the midland and the ghost antenna but it’s ok since they were gifts.

Welcome! The first thing you will learn is that the FRS channels are all GMRS channels and the GMRS channels are all FRS channels.

Just FYI - moving your antenna, swapping the antenna or even improving the SWR has absolutely nothing with the quality of the audio you are transmitting. As @nokones suggested, make sure your friend's radios are set to WIDEband.. also make sure you arent too close - like at least 1/4 mile away. and as @BoxCar eluded to, lowering the Mic gain would help, but the KG-1000G does not have an adjustable Mic gain, so ignore that - but when testing make sure you are speaking the exact same volume and with the mic at the exact same distance each time... Screaming into the mic and/or holding it too close to your noise-hole will cause what your friends are describing. -

Thank you!! Your post saved me the other day. The manual fails to mention `tC` anywhere in it... -

What radio are your friends receiving you on? Are both you and friend's radio set for the same bandwidth for emissions? If your friends are using cheap pandaland POS it is very likely their radios can not handle the power being injected into the receiver's front end or has very poor or no shielding to handle other radios that closes which is normal for those radios. -

Hello everyone! New to GMRS -- My sister gifted me a Midland MXT275 with the 3dB ghost antenna, as well as the 6dB whip which is still on the way. It was super easy to install and has been fun to use on the FRS channels when we road trip with friends! I haven't talked to anyone on the GMRS freq's yet, I've only made a couple calls into the abyss asking for a radio check. Still learning, and hoping the MXT275 will last me a while! Hope I can get some help. My wheeling friends tell me that my radio sounds crappy (over modulated?) when transmitting at high power (50 watts), however they said it sounds much better at medium power (20 watts). So, i decided to change both my antenna and its location. Originally it was a midland ghost antenna mounted on the lip of my hood and had an SWR of 1.01. Now I have located it behind the cab of my jeep and got a Midland MXTA26 whip antenna SWR is now 1.3 as expected due to less ground plane, and the same problem exists. Is there a setting in the radio I should check?

Which OEM antenna to use on the Baofeng UV-9G
Socalgmrs replied to WSID730's question in Technical Discussion
I’d bet you can also receive repeaters from 15miles away with the smaller one to. RX is mostly from the tx station. But can you hit and talk clearly to the repeater with either antenna? Use the one that meets your needs. Are you talking simplex less than a mile on the clear wide open? Are you trying to get the most distance to a far off repeater? I use 771 antennas on all my radios. Most of them are the uv9 and I get 60plus miles simplex But thats what I need for my use. You may not need 60 or even 20miles. But you may have trees or buildings in your way. You do you based on your requirements. -
I recently purchased the UV-9G which came with two antennas (short and long). Does anyone have any experience with these, and which is the preferred one? I can receive repeaters clearly that are about 15 miles away with the longer one.

OpenSPOT Tabletop Cradle Mount designed for OpenSPOT 3, 4, 4 Pro

I LOVE MakerWorld!! It's one of my favorite places to find creations to print for myself! The items in my shop are originals, only because I don't want to use other creators works and sell them as my own. You're right, 3D printers are getting cheaper, and currently the FlashForge 5M Pro is $449 online, and there's a third party company selling an addon AMS for a few hundred dollars, if AMS is something needed. I've got both the FF 5M Pro & BambuLab P1S with AMS, and love both! One was quite a bit more expensive than the other. -

I created a 30% off coupon code available at checkout for you, or anyone else looking to buy one this week! MYGMRS is the code and shipping is free! If my math is mathing correctly ha ha, it comes out to $11.34 prior to tax. Let me know if you have any questions! I'm working on a few more projects, including desktop cradles for portable radios. If there's something you'd like to see in my shop, drop me a line! -
A newbie’s review of the Choyong LC90

Wow that’s a load of useless info. I had to stop reading. Just too much!!! In the end does it work of not? I do know it’s not a gmrs radio so what do I care. -
There’s a very high probability that he has everything unlisted because he doesn’t want to allow anyone else on it. That’s his prerogative. Stalking him probably won’t make him more amenable to allowing you to use it.
