  3. I know there have been some enforcement actions taken by the FCC. I think it all depends on the seriousness and repetitiveness of the interference. I suspect that many of the complaints the FCC receives are from people who are simply jealous that someone else gets away with ignoring rules that they follow. Most of those complaints should be ignored. The behavior described by @WRUE951 exceeds that threshold in my opinion. If necessary a call to a U.S. senator or representative could help.
  4. You know, every radio is illegal, if you use it wrong enough...
  5. you describe a Baofeng UV 25 or or UV 21 with one cavoite,, your stuck with they key pad
  6. I have various models of Baofengs, Retevis, RadTels, and Wouxuns. Each has some features the others don't, but none have all. I wish someone would make a radio with the features listed below (roughly in order of preference). If such a radio exists, please let me know. [_] Chirp programmable [_] 10+ character customizable channel names (sorry Midland) [_] No keypad (just a handful of buttons: front panel, programmable sidekeys, etc. for less technical users.) [_] 24+ memory slots capable of storing GMRS repeater frequencies and split-tones (100+ channel memory slots overall) [_] Display readable in full sun, with adjustable backlight for night-time. [_] Dual-Band/Dual-Watch Rx VHF & UHF (for analog fire/safety, HAM, Marine, etc) [_] "Zones": allowing you to group channels by user need. (e.g. only GMRS, only HAM, only your town, neighboring towns, etc) [_] at least 4 zones, each capable of storing at least 20 channels [_] switch zones by one key press [_] USB-C charging on the battery [_] Drop-in desk cradle for charging [_] BNC or SMA antenna connector [_] IP54 or better rating for dust/water protection [_] Scanner with [_] scan within zone, or across all memory channels [_] temporary channel lockout [_] 5+ watts Tx output at 462-468 MHz [_] Channel KNOB (preferably with 16 to 20 clearly marked stops) [_] Rx AM Air band [_] NOAA with "SAME" alerting technology [_] FCC Type Certified for GMRS Features I don't care about: [_] GPS (esp. w/ proprietary sharing of that info) [_] DTMF [_] Man-Down/Lone-worker function [_] Broadcast FM radio reception The Wouxun KG-935 gets close, and I really like it. However, the 10-key pad isn't really a necessity. It means the "useful" buttons have to be small in order to fit the space, and they add potential for non-technical user error. The KG-905G Plus appears to have the button set I want, but it doesn't tick enough of the other boxes. Any suggestions?
  7. Agree, but a paper trail is better than no trail
  8. Windows 10 and 11 will expand .zip files natively. You will need a third party tool to expand .rar files.WinRAR and 7-Zip are good Windows programs for expanding car files.
  9. Is it a .ZIP file or a .RAR file?
  10. Today
  11. Windows 10 16GB of ram
  12. The attached papers give a bit more info on RF power exposure limits. This can get rather technical. Limits for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE).pdf CNIRP GUIDELINES FOR LIMITING EXPOSURE TO ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS (100 KHZ TO 300 GHZ).pdf
  13. Based on the FCC's history/record, it wont help. The FCC has made it abundantly and unmistakably clear that they do not care.
  14. I don’t know for certain if it would help, but I would recommend compiling a list of the various complaints that you and others have had including the police report and submitting it to the FCC.
  15. No,, But that would have been a good idea.. We didnt learn about the police call until a few weeks after when the father got on and shared what he did.. Wish i would have thught of that though I'm one of the guys that sent a complaint to the FCC
  16. Thanks, but apparently I didn’t explain my situation well. We are not trying to amplify the receiver audio. We already have a separate PA. I’d like to reduce the number of devices. Having a PA built into a mobile radio, like the old CB radios all seemed to have, would meet my needs well.
  17. That shouldn't be a problem. There are all sorts of ways to do that. Take a GMRS mobile, tap into the audio out port, run the audio through an amp onto a speaker horn. Simple basic manipulation of electrons that an engineer should be able to easily make happen. Let know how that turns out.
  18. What OS are you using? Because, yeah, what @SteveShannon said. Pretty much any OS has an on-board program to deal with zip files natively.
  19. No. Not to parrot someone who has thankfully moved along but when you submitted your application to the FCC you “signed” saying that you understood and agreed to obey the rules. Lying there is also punishable, perhaps even more easily than noncompliance with the rules.
  20. I believe in order to be a "rule breaker" you first need to know the rules, otherwise you're just ignorant. I like all your input and discussions on the matter so I can make informed decisions if I want to "break the rules" or remain ignorant. I see some value to breaking rules because some FCC rules are limiting and may impede ones ability to reach a contact. But I guess if you don't understand what your transmissions are doing or capable of doing (interfering with emergency radios, etc...) someone should school you. Another thought is how could FCC enforce any GMRS when you only have to pay $35 for a "license" without a general knowledge test. A drivers license requires a general knowledge test. Could ignorance possibly be a defense from any FCC enforcement actions since no one required you to know to even get the license in first place? I'm pretty sure in the eyes of the law, ignorance is not a defense but could this why enforcement is so low?
  21. ZIP files can be unzipped within any modern operating system. In windows simply right click on the zip file and drag slightly and then choose expand or expand to folder.
  22. Dose any one have a Free program to unzip Retevis Software & Firmware for the RT97L?
  23. Meanwhile,, i just took a peek in by radio cabnet where dozens of radios sit. Some of us are hyper-focused behind closed doors
  24. Okay, good point. My DB25-G has a jack for a headset. Perhaps some bubble gum and bailing wire could somehow make that work.
  25. Having watched the video, he definitely seems like a nice guy who probably just got a little hyperfocused on the things in life that he can control while other things might have been spinning out of control. Impressive, sad, brilliant, messed up. Doc from Back to the Future lives in southern California, I guess. But on the other hand, did you notice that despite the appearance of everything in shambles, his tires were in good shape? That's not a pavement princess / mall crawl vehicle. He maintains what's important to keep mobile and on the air, and lets the rest go.
  26. I remember that PA in my old PACE radio... Almost had as much fun plying the PA then on the CB
