  1. Past hour
  2. Can you receive those same repeaters as well with the shorter antenna? You answered your own question.
  3. Welcome, Zack!
  4. Today
  5. No flashing required. Some early models had a few differences: USB-A and R8 firmware, and some USB-C models had the R8 firmware; so I specified to help whoever stumbles on this next. Could probably ship to Midland to flash. But you're right, at that point it's worth upgrading. But hey, gotta start somewhere!
  6. I get people telling me the same thing from time to time. With no mic gain you just need to talk softer or further away. A good habit is to never use more power than you absolutely need! Use low power for all wheeling situations. When I use my kg1000+ people say I sound over modulated but when my family talks on the same radio to me I think they all sound fantastic which makes me wonder if some types of voices don’t do well on the kg1000+.
  7. I do wish that Wouxun would include a way to adjust mic gain in their radios. And yes the KG-1000G mic is on the hot side. Another thing that greatly helps is holding the mic at an angle to your face instead of flat. PS: ignore Negative Nancy
  8. I see you met our resident troll. Yeah he’s kind of a piece of work, not real good at social cues. Welcome to the forum anyway and congratulations on having an awesome sister! Cheers p.s. there is an ignore setting
  9. Man midlands are a lot of work for no benefit at all. I’ve never once had to upgrade firmware on any radio ever. And all my radios work just fine. But they aren’t gimmicky radios that use worlds like “privacy tones” to lie to people. Midland….uugg
  10. Like what. I’m actually pointing out a specific issue they the op brought up. You’re just getting upset. I actually read the rules before I paid my fees. It’s called taking responsibility. I know most people like you and many others don’t think that a good trait any more but I was raised to actually do research, read rules, in general have knowledge mostly from actual books. Today we have the interwebby and people are more uneducated than ever before. I mean it’s basic gmrs/FRS knowledge. 1-22 So you tell me what I have to learn and I’ll learn it. But in this case I’m not the one that had no clue what so ever about basic stuff even with the entire world at his finger tips. In today’s world no one should be ignorant but it happens all the time. It’s like telling the state trooper you did t know the speed limit. It’s like telling the state trooper you didn’t know you needed to use turn signals. Ignorance is No excuse. When you and all other gmrs users signed up we all told the fcc we have read AND understood the rules. Yet stupid questions and lack of understanding happens on this site every day. READ STUFF
  11. He's got the 50W radio, he should make them change.. and they will have to endure his wrath if they refuse.
  12. Yesterday
  13. WE THINK YOU HAVE A LOT OF LEARNING TO DO ... So get on it SOCAL !!
  14. Sheesh...
  15. Good for you - Want a cookie?
  16. If his friends/Trail Dudes are using FRS radios the OP may be forced to go narrowband since most or if not all FRS radios are only narrowband emissions.
  17. I should also add (Gotta give back to the community): It looks like if the firmware is R9 (Enables Split Tones and I think wide-band). So now in the menu instead of "Pt" for Privacy Tone, they have "tC" for Transmit Tone, and "rT" for Receive Tone!
  18. Wow an issue with woxoun? No way! I’d bet the others are using narrow band midland or rugged. But again woxoun? Meh im so glad ive never had these issues and i use my radios with several other people every single day for 8-10hours.
  19. As already stated gmrs and frs are the same. You have your call sign so you told the fcc you understood the rules Before you paid the fees. I think you have a lot of learning to do. Might want to go back and actually read the rules this time and not just click through. You are already responsible for knowing them. And you don’t know the basics so please go learn. And sorry to here about the midland and the ghost antenna but it’s ok since they were gifts.
  20. Welcome! The first thing you will learn is that the FRS channels are all GMRS channels and the GMRS channels are all FRS channels.
  21. Dont be such a racist against Pandabears!
  22. Just FYI - moving your antenna, swapping the antenna or even improving the SWR has absolutely nothing with the quality of the audio you are transmitting. As @nokones suggested, make sure your friend's radios are set to WIDEband.. also make sure you arent too close - like at least 1/4 mile away. and as @BoxCar eluded to, lowering the Mic gain would help, but the KG-1000G does not have an adjustable Mic gain, so ignore that - but when testing make sure you are speaking the exact same volume and with the mic at the exact same distance each time... Screaming into the mic and/or holding it too close to your noise-hole will cause what your friends are describing.
  23. Thank you!! Your post saved me the other day. The manual fails to mention `tC` anywhere in it...
  24. What radio are your friends receiving you on? Are both you and friend's radio set for the same bandwidth for emissions? If your friends are using cheap pandaland POS it is very likely their radios can not handle the power being injected into the receiver's front end or has very poor or no shielding to handle other radios that closes which is normal for those radios.
  25. I am sorry you are having reading difficulties. But thank you for letting us know!
  26. Hello everyone! New to GMRS -- My sister gifted me a Midland MXT275 with the 3dB ghost antenna, as well as the 6dB whip which is still on the way. It was super easy to install and has been fun to use on the FRS channels when we road trip with friends! I haven't talked to anyone on the GMRS freq's yet, I've only made a couple calls into the abyss asking for a radio check. Still learning, and hoping the MXT275 will last me a while!
