  1. Past hour
  2. You are around 4 miles from one of the strongest repeaters in the area on 462.675Mhz with a 50 mile radius. I used to be able to hit it from Pensacola on occasion. Channel 6 is only 12.5kHz away (462.6875Mhz). If the repeater is running wide band, running slightly off frequency, your receive is off or sensitivity/selectivity sucks, etc.. it could sneak through. Is the id the same as the repeater on 462.675?
  3. why would I want to get any of these? more relevantly, what's it to you? you work for BTWR or just a fan of that store? speaking of the KG-935G - BTWR did a botched job on its NOAA channel, so they later release the KG-935Plus, but not as an exchange, but an full price upgrade. I know, I have both of these radios clearly, BTWR, and you, apparently, think that they are a monopoly. They ain't! But if a lot of their customer base does indeed believe that they are, yet another solid reason for me to go elsewhere.
  4. Will have to look at that when I can get on a PC. It may be the version that only works with a paid account, or they may have put the free one back since I last looked (been some months). not that it matters much with them killing the pc version off later this month.
  5. Ok, let us know what those other options are for getting a new KG-1000G or KG-935G.. or 805G ....
  6. No, but I will go to vendors who try to help even with a radio is out of guarantee. I have had good experiences so far with BetterSafeRadio and their latest KG-UV9GX+ looks rather sexy (see here: https://bettersaferadio.com/wouxun-kg-uv9gx-plus-gmrs-radio-shtf-scanner). And there are other vendors and distributors out there. There are always options even if BTWR think that they are irreplaceable
  7. Or.... Both kinds of Music, Country and Western.
  8. Today
  9. When my old club put a repeater up, it cost over $7M. I doubt we would pull that kind of money together on crowd-fund... but it's fun to joke about. I wouldn't put a mobile duplexer in orbit. That would be a disaster waiting to happen.
  10. Radio-Dork term for Morse-Code.
  11. Yep, same thing, that could be it. (What is CW?)
  12. Can't, it's arbitrary, never at a set time and lasts about 3 seconds .
  13. If I recall correctly, you have to do it in the software.
  14. You only going to buy radios with forever-long warranties from now on? Also: have you checked to see of any other custom settings change or get lost?
  15. yea, thats what i thought. I just didnt know for sure where this was heading. - thanks
  16. No. There are no regulations or rules against a software company making software that can be used for among many other things, linking repeaters. It is the radio operator's responsibility to not violate the rules. Zello began deprecating the desktop version years ago when they stopped updating it and removed the direct-links to the download from their website.
  17. I wonder, Can the FCC actually enforce their GMRS Linking ruling to require Zello to stop allowing GMRS traffic on their Network? I thought it was radio operator responsibility. Interesting ??
  18. As promised, I am posting the reply I got from BTWR: "Unfortunately, you're radio is no longer under warrantee so there's not much I can do for you regarding a replacement." I don't think that I will purchase more radios from them.
  19. While correct, I suspect the crowd-funding would be significantly short of the cost to get one up in near earth orbit. I wonder what space dust and the extreme temperatures would do to a "mobile" duplexer though.
  20. I purchased a used Wouxun KG-XS20G Plus radio and am wondering how to change the call sign on the screen. Anybody got a clue???
  21. I talked 2,039 miles om my HT, from DC to Sonora, Mexico. It was through a repeater on a satellite about 250 miles in the air, but hey....still counts. There are no restrictions on putting a GMRS satellite in orbit. We should start a crowd-funded account to make that happen.
  22. [Emphasis added] Edit: Never mind. This is pricey, but should work: Carbon fiber photographer tripod. It's "that time" here in Hurricane Central and I've found enough people in the neighborhood interested in radio that the next step is using my mobile setup in a base configuration, to be set up after a storm event. If it works well the community would probably support a repeater at some point. Does anyone make a simple, portable mast system for radio? We've all seen the flagpole, painters' pole bubble-gum-and-bailing-wire assemblies, and I've run into some interesting ideas for photographers, but nothing built for radio. I suppose a painters' pole attached to tilting base would work, but the only such bases I've found are for a full three-pole mast. I could always piece something together, but it would be nice if someone offered a simple solution. Have I missed it, or is the market simply too small? No way I'm putting up something permanent only to watch it get blown down. Not gonna happen.
  23. You're not a scammer. So good for you!
  24. It's on the Zello website https://support.zello.com/hc/en-us/articles/36830119152397-2025-Service-Changes Depending on what they charge I think I would pay for it. It's an outstanding service for our Community.
  25. Where did you find this information? Only asking because I didn't see anything on their blog mentioning it. Thanks.
  26. Went and poked around on their website and found this. Is that just a rebadged $30 UV88 (also the basis for the Radioddity GM-30)? I'm in the wrong line of business.
