    Clueless

The FCC rules stand as they are written, there is no almost legal nor technically in violation of the rules it is either illegal or not.We at mygmrs.com do not condone violating the rules nor do we suggest a search to see what the risk are according to other people's opinions. You are either legal or illegal there is no in between...William

    Maximum Wattage?

Could this 15 watt station possibly be like the “shotgun” setup used during linking repeaters?

  4. Hey rockhound If anyone finds an adapter please let me know. https://www.amazon.com/Antenna-Adapter-Connector-Converter-Coaxial/dp/B076HHDTFT/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1520088848&sr=8-16&keywords=bnc+to+sma+adaptor I think this is the antenna adaptor you need Are these radios capable of tone scan? Scanning for CTCSS Tone 1. Press the [MENU] key to enter the menu. 2. Enter [11] on your numeric keypad to come to Menu 11: R-CTCS 3. Press the [MENU] key to select. Insure you have a tone activated (and it is not off) 4.Press the [*SCAN]to begin CTCSS scanning A flashing "CT" will be in the left status display to indicate the radio is in CTCSS scanning mode. In this mode, whenever the radio is receiving an RF signal on the selected MR channel or VFO frequency, the lower display will cycle through the CTCSS tones as they are being tested. Once the frequency of the received CTCSS tone is determined, the "CT" indicator will stop flashing. Press the [MENU] key to save the scanned tone into memory then press the key to exit the menu. We have one and ordered another last night for our grandson. I am very pleased with this radio.

Actually, depending on how you program them, they may be almost legal on FRS. You'd have to set the FRS frequencies in simplex mode and at low power. The main variance from the FRS rules would be the removable antenna. On the other hand, if you get a GMRS license, your grandson would also be covered by your license. However, since the 888 is not FCC accepted for GMRS, you would still technically be in violation of the rules. I would not suggest you violate the rules (it is against the policy to do so on MyGMRS anyway). But, you might goggle around a bit and see what the risks are of using improper equipment are on FRS or GMRS

Someone on the radioreference.com forums was kind enough to send some replacement bulbs for my Realistic Patrolman the other day. I swapped out the bad bulbs last night and the radio now has a permanent home on my desk:

    Maximum Wattage?

Which is really silly since there exist charts that point out the precise frequencies allowable, along with their useage modes. I'm so anal about the matter that Saturday during the annual Field Day I asked for an Extra to help me with logging since many of the best signals were in the portions of 15m that I'm not legally allowed to use.
