  1. Considering the FCC accepts audio recordings, when making a compliant of interference or illegal operation. We have used audio recordings of illegal operation to obtain information on the individuals involved. A major convenience to review than to sit and listen the whole day.

  2. Most police, fire, EMS, local government agencies record all of their radio traffic. So do many businesses. Absent encryption (not legal on GMRS anyway), there is no expectation of privacy on two-way radio traffic; cell phone frequencies excepted. I'm not sure what value recording silent transmissions might be, but only you can decide that.

  3. Hi, If I am using GMRS channels on the air with my family members does each member have to give the call sign at the end of our conversation or every 15 minutes? or does just the station operator ( me ) give the call sign? I have 4 uniden radios that we use when traveling or camping and sometimes use the GMRS channels instead of the FRS chanels when needed but have not found any info if every individual radio user has to give the call sign. We label the radios unit 1 to unit 4 so we know who is who. With HAM radio each user needs a license but with GMRS family members can use the radios with one license assigned. I am aware we do not need to use call signs on FRS. Thank you Bob WHWQ310 73 KI7TOS toolsrbob@frontier.com

  5. I don't believe so. I know some states have something called the "wiretap law" but I'm too lazy to look it up and it probably varies by state. Here in Texas I've recorded (and uploaded) plenty of illegal transmissions and activity on both GMRS and Amateur. No issues thus far.

  7. It can take a week or so for the FCC database to be published and then downloaded to MyGMRS.com. It's not an instantaneous process. Most forums, etc. only update from the FCC once a week.
