    It may well be that a previous owner (or a radio shop) has turned down the PA's output to put less strain on the PA, thus extending the service life of the radio without compromising the power too much. Eight fewer watts of output power to the antenna system isn't going to make much difference in the performance anyway. As for measurements, if it ain't a Bird wattmeter, I don't trust it!

  2. Good grief! How "1990's of them. Many folks are astonished to learn that most of the CCRs being imported have the complete transceiver on a single surface mount chip. All the rest of the components are there to support that single chip...

  4. While browsing Midland's web site, I saw their HAM radio offering, it is the same as a lot of other CCR's with a Midland sticker. I'm off of Midland for GMRS now because I don't want to have to deal with trying to use a narrow band radio on my local repeaters networks which are all using wide band.
