  1. The repeater outputs are on the simplex frequencies. You can talk on any frequency your license covers, regardless of if a repeater nearby shares that frequency. Additionally, you don't 'always' need the owner's permission to use a repeater. While all repeaters are privately owned, many owners will allow any licensed user to use it. I would recommend making a best effort to contact the owner and ask. Sometimes, I have actually hailed the owner on the repeater.

  2. In my case, I only have a 4w handheld I can use in the house, and it's a townhome community so I'm surprised I can hit it even outside with all the obstruction. I'm near the Wegmans in Fairfax, about 1 mile west of the city line. And yeah, almost 10 miles exactly from the Seven Corners location. I'm not sure why they haven't renamed the repeater in the listing.

  4. Would be awesome if they moved the manufacturing back to the USA... but I won't hold my hopes very high...

    Kenwood cheat sheet

For GMRS, Ver. 1 and Ver. 2 radios are the same. Ver. 2 radios have a slightly different schematic and some different features that are used in LMR/commercial operations.

    Kenwood cheat sheet

TK-880 datasheet: https://criticalradio.com/Kenwood%20Spec%20Sheets/Data%20Sheets/TK780h_880h_ver2_k.pdf "H" means high power and bigger heat sink on the back, refer to the datasheet for the dimensions. There is some difference between v2.0 version and earlier (non-versioned, that is often called V1.0), but I can't weigh on that, since I do not own one. The "-1", "-2" and "-3" are not versions of the hardware, they are versions of alignment, refer to the datasheet.

  7. G.... it was a joke. LoL I could be wrong, but I think the only SMA antenna mount is on an HT.
