Well I took the Technician test on Saturday and passed. So something this week I expect to receive my license and callsign. They talked me in to sitting for the General test (there was no fee for testing at this location). Missed a few too many on that one. LOL. I'll most likely take it next month since I was pretty close to passing it.

Well huh. Guess someone needs to the the FCC that all those radios that the FCC has certified for 95A and 95B are out of compliance with FCC rules for 95A and 95B. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For clarification - Bubble pack radios *can* be used on shared frequencies without a license, provided they don't exceed .5W. Even the little Talkabouts I first bought for use around the farm had that option. ref: https://www.fcc.gov/general/general-mobile-radio-service-gmrs

According to the map page there is one in Woodbridge and one in Arlington (both suburbs in NoVa). I am between those, but with just the stock antenna (and living down by the river) I haven't heard any traffic on them.

Just got my license a couple weeks ago, then promptly moved to the DC area. Once I get settled in I plan to actually start doing stuff (like getting a decent radio). Also studying for my HAM license. Just wanted to say I'm glad this site (both the main site and the forums) exists and thanks in advance for answering any clueless newbie questions.
