Martin Jue is 80 years old...and wants to spend what he has left of his life, enjoying his family.
I'd prefer to see some outfit, like Vibroplex, buy the company and keep it going somehow. I was amazed they still did manufacturing in Mississippi....figured it was all outsourced.
Best of luck to them....in 30 + years I have spent thousands with MFJ.

I prefer the Radioddity CPS to Chirp for my GM-30.

I wanted to try one but got over it. I ordered one from Amazon...2 days later its on my porch...opened it up and it's DOA. FIled an exchange with Amazon...new replacement arrives...dead in the box. I gave up and just got a refund. I know I know...they aren't all like that. I'm over it.

I haven't tried to contact Baofeng about it yet.
How do you plan on doing that?

The stuff that drives me nuts is the old men who talk about their health problems. Strokes, gout, oozing wounds, cancers, the whole gamut of issues. Totally depressing. My friends and I are very active hiking, off roading, camping, shooting, fishing, metal detecting, rockhounding, candy making, beer making, meat smoking, you name it, there's someone in our club that does it. And sometimes we even talk about radios.
I never hear the health net reports on UHF/VHF. Seems the Tapeworm Net and the Sweaty Piles Net are usually on 75m (HF CB Radio).

Where did you find version 2.0 SIX of the CPS?
Update: my mistake: it is 2.06
On the Radioddity website.

As it's been said, and will be said again.....if you must buy junk, buy cheap junk.

thank you for posting the tip on using the GM-30 profile software. the v1 worked for me. anyone try the v2 firmware/software? any benefits to it?
I use version 2.06 on my GM-30. Works great. I don't know what the diffs are between 1 and 2.06 though.

I need help in programming my radio as stated above. Would like to talk to someone. I have watched the online videos and still not clear.

Are you using the programming software or trying to just do it by hand through the keypad? If using Computer Programming Software, what CPS are you using?

The Antenna is RD-332 no RD 232....Radioddity web site has the cable and the antenna and the free programming software.

You seem to have not noticed or understood this phraseology. It says family members can operate your station(s), So, to me that means if they have their own station(s). they need their own license.
My wife and I have HT's and one license we both use, and we're legal.

So ive used a lot of radios in my time for work purposes, and all my ham equipment is yaesu radios, we are going to purchase 6 GM 30 today, we had 2 for trail on ranch work and i highly recommend them $29 comfortable for work antenna supplied.
why i mentioned the ham radios, is that i would not normally look at anything under $200
As a happy GM-30 owner, we have TWO. I highly suggest you get the programming cable, AND up buy the higher gain RD-232 antenna.
Have fun!

Which scanner would cover all frequencies available to listen to I have an old radio snack pro-44 handheld works like new but I believe there is more I could be hearing
Not looking for something that will break the piggy bank?
Any scanner that covers DC to Daylight should fit the bill. Can you narrow it down?

We bought GM-30's in February last year. Very happy with them. I live about 20 miles south of the Indy 600 repeater and we can't hit it reliably with them....even with the better RD-232 antenna. But that's OK, we're out on the edge of the repeater and lot of stuff between us and the repeater site. I fish a lot in the summertime, at a pond that is about a mile from home. I can talk with my wife and she can talk to me on the GM-30's with no problems. When she takes her daily walk around the block, she is about 2.2 miles away and we can still converse with little difficulty. These are the only GMRS radios we use currently. I do have a TK-880 Kenwood that I hope to set up as a base radio and I hope to get an antenna up 20-30 feet....should have no probs hitting Indy 600 then. 67 days until Spring...

I’d love to deploy a GMRS repeater, only problem is the cost.
Same reason we don't eat beef these days.

And even worse…. You know how easy it is to acquire the database?
I know it use to be just downloadable. I know certain resellers used it to send their catalogs to new hams.
Haven't done anything with it in 7 or 8 years....is it still a free download or do you have to pay for it now?

Pretty sure the 9R is an updated UV5R except for GMRS and IP67 waterproof...might try the UV5R/G in CHIRP. Baofeng models happen about 20 a week...so it takes time for CHIRP to catch up.

I think it hit earlier tonight....20m flat fricking died....then 40m went... gonna be pretty weird out there until sometime Saturday afternoon they say.
