Just trying to prevent him from falling for the classic "Textbook Sad" option of wiping his ass with $100 bills and flushing them down the toilet. At least if he buys a real radio that has a receiver that will exceed that Chinese abomination in performance he'll have something to show for his investment. At the end of his day he has another option. I won't apologize for someone that gets butt hurt by someone putting another option on the table. And it's not going to hurt my feelings if he doesn't take my advice.

My hundred dollar bills are my hundred dollars bills...and I will wipe anything that I wish with my hundred dollar bills.  You seem easily butthurt...have you tried the cream or the sprays for that?

  2. Martin Jue is 80 years old...and wants to spend what he has left of his life, enjoying his family.

I'd prefer to see some outfit, like Vibroplex, buy the company and keep it going somehow.  I was amazed they still did manufacturing in Mississippi....figured it was all outsourced.

Best of luck to them....in 30 + years I have spent thousands with MFJ.

The stuff that drives me nuts is the old men who talk about their health problems. Strokes, gout, oozing wounds, cancers, the whole gamut of issues. Totally depressing. My friends and I are very active hiking, off roading, camping, shooting, fishing, metal detecting, rockhounding, candy making, beer making, meat smoking, you name it, there's someone in our club that does it. And sometimes we even talk about radios.

I never hear the health net reports on UHF/VHF.  Seems the Tapeworm Net and the Sweaty Piles Net are usually on 75m (HF CB Radio).

thank you for posting the tip on using the GM-30 profile software. the v1 worked for me.  anyone try the v2 firmware/software?  any benefits to it?

I use version 2.06 on my GM-30. Works great.  I don't know what the diffs are between 1 and 2.06 though.

So ive used a lot of radios in my time for work purposes, and all my ham equipment is yaesu radios, we are going to purchase 6 GM 30  today, we had 2 for trail on ranch work and i highly  recommend them $29 comfortable for work antenna supplied.

why i mentioned the ham radios, is that  i would not normally look at anything under $200

As a happy GM-30 owner, we have TWO.  I highly suggest you get the programming cable, AND up buy the higher gain RD-232 antenna.

    Have fun!

Which scanner would cover all frequencies available to listen to    I have an old radio snack pro-44 handheld works like new but I believe there is more I could be hearing

Not looking for something that will break the piggy bank?

Any scanner that covers DC to Daylight should fit the bill.  Can you narrow it down?

  7. We bought GM-30's in February last year.  Very happy with them.  I live about 20 miles south of the Indy 600 repeater and we can't hit it reliably with them....even with the better RD-232 antenna.  But that's OK, we're out on the edge of the repeater and lot of stuff between us and the repeater site.  I fish a lot in the summertime, at a pond that is about a mile from home.  I can talk with my wife and she can talk to me on the GM-30's with no problems.  When she takes her daily walk around the block, she is about 2.2 miles away and we can still converse with little difficulty.  These are the only GMRS radios we use currently.  I do have a TK-880 Kenwood that I hope to set up as a base radio and I hope to get an antenna up 20-30 feet....should have no probs hitting Indy 600 then.  67 days until Spring...

And even worse…. You know how easy it is to acquire the database?

I know it use to be just downloadable.  I know certain resellers used it to send their catalogs to new hams.

Haven't done anything with it in 7 or 8 years....is it still a free download or do you have to pay for it now?
