The question I like to ask new folks in your position is, what do you hope to use GMRS for? Why did you become interested? That will help us give better answers.

Hello and welcome! I don't have that radio but there must be something you are missing. Have you read through the manual carefully? Here is a review on that radio that may help. He has a few other video's on the TD-H3 you can watch to learn more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S5uSJmWsdg

Welcome! You first have to identify a repeater that you want to use then look up that repeater on the map on the main MyGMRS page there you will find the info for that repeater.
-
It's the same radio. You just unlock which ever mode you want. Here is a video explaining how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZhuJRNGpJc

As Sshannon mentioned Repeaters don't talk to each other. You have one repeater in a location where all can reach it (ideally) As also mentioned having a base station at each home is what you should aim for. The handhelds talk to the base stations that are within range if they can't reach the repeater. The base can relay the message if needed through the repeater. If the terrain allows for the the base stations to reach each other you may not need a repeater. You will have to do some experimenting to find out what works.

A good pouch is a much better solution. This what I use. Best ones on the market as far as I know. https://www.spectergear.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=238

Also if you want versatility for trying different antennas go with an NMO type mount. That will allow you to use any NMO antenna. Here is an example: https://www.buytwowayradios.com/melowave-mtm-1435.html Mag mounts work good on vehicles that you don't want to modify. Tell us more about your requirements. Height restrictions? Range desired? Terrain in the area? What radio are you using?
-
Best location is the center of the roof. Can you do that or is there a cargo rack or something that would make that not practical? If that location works then a magnet mount is your best bet.

Probably has the KG-935G as the plus version comes with the usb-c chargeable batteries. I bought the older non usb-c batteries as they are larger capacity at 3,200 mAh vs the usb-c version at 2,600 mAh. I use the usb-c batteries for spares.

Which antenna design should I go with for 2 repeaters I have?
WRWE456 replied to WRTA578's question in Technical Discussion
Height above sea level is not important. It is the height above the local terrain that is relevant. So 60 feet unless it is on a hill. -
Baofeng UV 5G Plus Repeater Transmitting Issues
WRWE456 replied to Hockeydude's topic in General Discussion
Do you hold the radio/antenna vertical while transmitting? It's a simple thing but many people new to radio do not know that antenna's work properly when vertical. -
I assume you mean the KG-935G+ version? I think they have dropped the original KG-935G. Buy Two Way Radios no longer has it on their site. Many consider it to be the best GMRS radio on the market myself included. I have three of them. Of course it could be overkill if your needs are simple as it is a full featured radio, but it is a solid choice.

There is one feature they are missing that is important to me at least. And that is GMRS!

How to install a 50w GMRS Transceiver into a 2017 Ford Fusion
WRWE456 replied to Sonicgott's question in Technical Discussion
Also most radios come with the wire and fuse's. The KG1000G+ does. -
Wouxun KG-1000G tips and tricks thread
WRWE456 replied to Sbsyncro's question in Technical Discussion
Hello Sonicgott and welcome! It would be better to start a new thread asking your question. You will likely get more answers. Going directly to the battery helps avoid possible noise being picked up from other circuits. That is why it is recommended for radios even car stereo systems. Also a 50 watt radio needs more power than a cigarette lighter plug can provide so you have to make sure whatever circuit you use is rated high enough. -
Updating the firmware is not the same as programing the radio for channels etc.

85 Miles? How far away have you made contact?
WRWE456 replied to Skunkworks's topic in General Discussion
My furthest is 91 miles from my hill top location to a large repeater in Seattle with 935G+ and a rooftop Arrow Antenna's Yagi directional. almost full quieting. -
Which adapter fits the antenna mounting point for the Wouxun KG-Q10G??
WRWE456 replied to WRNZ515's question in Technical Discussion
Just to clear up the Warranty question: Wouxun Q10G Owner’s Manual, Page 132 - Limited Warranty: This warranty is limited to the repair and replacement of the defective components and is not valid if the radio has been tampered with, misused, abused, used with unapproved accessories, subjected to unauthorized disassembly, unauthorized repair, replacement of unauthorized parts, unavoidable conditions, human destruction, water damage or environmental damage. This warranty is void if the serial number is defaced or altered. -
The green circles on the map are just a very rough estimate. I live 20 miles outside the circle for a large repeater in my region and can use it just fine.
-
My first thought is how close to the repeater are you? Do you know for sure that you are in range and that no hills or mountains or large buildings are in between you and the repeater? GMRS is line of sight and if anything substantial is in the way you will not get through. Can you drive close to the repeater so you can test it?

Regarding the usb battery pack chargers. They are not really designed to be used as power supplies. They are for charging small batteries. They can power small devices but it is likely they just don't put out the current needed to run radio equipment. You would be better off using a larger 12 volt battery.

LOUISIANA NEEDS GMRS/HAM users.. comms sucks here!
WRWE456 replied to derekdauzat's topic in Guest Forum
I wonder if you understand what the intended use of GMRS/FRS is? It's not social media. You come here for that. LOL! The reason the license covers your family is so families and friends can stay in touch for things like camping, hiking, off roading, use on the property, farm etc. Amateur radio (ham) is better for reaching out to strangers to make contacts if that is your interest. Sure there is some of that with GMRS but that's not really what it's for. -
Wouldn't it be nice if the "real" radio manufacturer's would make dedicated GMRS radios? But they don't! So just what is the dividing line between good and junk anyway? It seems some of you think all dedicated GMRS radios on the market are junk because they are not made by Motorola, Kenwood, Icom, Yaesu, etc. Maybe some day they will step up until then I am happy with the performance, reliability and features of my Wouxun radios. Been using a pair of 935G+'s daily for over a year and not a single problem has come up. What else do you need?
