  1. I meant to say I don't think I will open it.
  2. I have not opened it, and think I will. I was going to move the MXT275 to my truck to replace the GM-30 that I have set up with a ghost antenna. I thought the DB20 would be easier to scroll up straight to a repeater channel.
  3. I know the repeater tone and have permission to use it from the owner. I have it in my MXT275 and GM-30 HT. The DB20 owners manual is a little bigger than 3 years ago. I was playing with it again and had to factory reset it. Now I can't get it to change from vf mode to channel mode. I'm taking a break from it at this point.
  4. The only thing I don't like about mine is that you have to switch to repeater on the mic. Most other gmrs radios, you just scroll up through the channels. I'm putting mine in my truck and will probably use it for simplex only while traveling.
  5. Thanks @OffRoaderX. I watched your review from 3 years ago, not being good with computers sucks sometimes.
  6. I don't own a laptop or computer, or have access to download the software to one. I have a tablet and can I barely surf and pay my bills online with it. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to program repeaters manually? I installed the radio in my jeep today and heard somebody on channel 16 while I was trying to set it up.
  7. On Midlands web site, it says wide band while transmitting on repeater channels only.
  8. I won't be doing anything with programming or chirp. I don't have the ability or knowledge to try and use anything like that.
  9. I don't think so.
  10. I just bought a db20 and gm-30 combo on Amazon for $109. I'm going to move my MXT275 to my truck and put the db20 in my jeep. The MXT275 fits in the map pocket next to my right knee.
  11. Less bourbon is never the answer
  12. The Amazon radios are flying off of the shelf. I just had a left hip revision done and will be studying for the technician license during my recovery. I was able to find a few radios on Scott's radios and he will be shipping mine out tomorrow. I don't know when Amazon or Radioddity would have more in. I'll have to look into taking the test online because I won't be able to for 6 weeks or so.
  13. I'm not the smartest person on here. It took me a while to figure it out myself. I have a Radioddity GM-30 and used a SMA male to UHF female. The SMA end consists to your radio. Yours might take a female? I used a Nagoya lip mount on my driver side rear door with a Motorola 3db ghost antenna, both of which I got off of Amazon.
  14. So, I've been thinking about joining the dark side and get the Ham Technician license. I've also been thinking about having a cb radio when we travel. I joined a cb forum trying to get some ideas. I thought I would go AM/FM and it would fulfill my needs. But I've also been googling ssb and whether I should consider that too. I was thinking about getting a Radioddity qt60 and actually had one in my cart. I've seen and read some stuff on a new qt80, and thought, let's see if there's one on Amazon. Well, when I searched on Friday, Amazon said there was only one left in they're system. So buy once cry once, right? So now I have a Radioddity qt80 coming with a Tram 3500 magnetic mount coming. Now I'll just have to see if it will fit where I want it to in my truck.
  15. I also tried one Thursday night. I just couldn't hang.
  16. When I bought my jeep it had a broken cb antenna and a old radio that I'm not sure how good it is. I'm thinking about installing a cb again just because. I have a MXT275 installed and carry a couple of cheap Baufeng's incase another vehicle tags along and don't have comms.
  17. I retired to South East Arizona and picked up a '05 TJR for exploring the local State trust lands and forest roads. This is my 6th Jeep and I hope I'm able to enjoy it for a long time. I usually run GMRS channel 16 or have my radio on scan. !
  18. My sister's in-laws followed us in their van and I maybe we'd pick up some truckers channel 19. Next time I might stick to FRS just to make it easier for them.
  19. I've done the same on our travel trailer and truck. 3,500 to Mississippi and back to South East Arizona via Albuquerque, New Mexico and no one tried to contact us. I did hear another couple talking to each other coming back through Texas.
  20. I have 3 UV-5R's that I programmed for GMRS like everyone does. My first foray into HT's. I have a MXT 275 for my jeep that works great for what it is. I decided to get a regular GMRS radio and the GM 30 fit the budget. I'm still learning.
  21. We just did a 3500 mile round trip to Mississippi and back through Eastern New Mexico to Santa Fe and then home. My sisters in law and I kept our GMRS radios on channel 19 for most of the trip. It was only busy passing through the big cities.
  22. I'm new to myGMRS.com and was just browsing the forum. I actually just ordered some window vynel stickers for the back window of our travel trailer. Simply stating GMRS CH. 19. I remember seeing similar stickers on the back of motorhomes traveling down the highway.
