Elapsed time between when something was certified by FCC and the time it shows up in the list you looked at.
I'd go even more basic as lag is not a "radio" specific term and is used in many forms of communication like computer networking
A lag is simply a delay in transmission or reception of a communications signal.
As we all know whenever a federal entity is involved the lag time increases dramatically! -

Good evening mygmrs'ers!
With respect to Chirp and the various column settings using the Tremont Ranch Open Repeater as an example, below are the published settings here on mygmrs:
Would this be correct settings for that repeater in Chirp?:
Do I need a tone squelch or duplex setting here? Some column settings here seem mutually exclusive, meaning fill one out and it blanks others. Learning slowly but surely.
Thanks again for all the help past and present gentlemen! Is the Tone Out setting of 100MHz for this Tremont Repeater in the top pic the same as the Chirp setting for Tone Squelch? Do I need to add 100.0 for the Tone Squelch in Chirp?

First, a caveat. I don’t have the GMRS version of the UV5R. I have the regular old one.
Does the GMRS version automatically do the repeater offset or do you need to include a 5 MHz offset in the column marked offset, like you did for Ranchino?
It did so automatically!

Is there a comprehensive list of all the repeaters and channels used in the San Gabriel, San Bernardino, Cleveland, and other Mountains, high and low deserts. Thinking stuff any off-roader or overlander would want for our area and neighboring areas?

I see DTCS and 023, and I heard you hitting the repeater, so I'd say it is correct.
I haven't uploaded this or tried to TX today, so that must have been another radio checker

Assuming you entered them on that channel, then, yes. That channel is now programmed for Ranchino.
Thanks for all the help Saturday OffRoaderX!
Is Ranchino the appropriate name for this Haven Peak repeater?
Or is it known by another more common name locally?
I'm diving into Chirp, where I feel more comfortable visualizing all the settings and channels cuz Im a tech geek! -
Q - Once I have entered the right DTC/DCS/DPL tone of: D023 for this repeater, does it remain in memory after I turn the unit off?

Many online "experts" highly tout the Nagoya NA-771-G as one of the best antennas for GMRS HTs.
My new Baofeng UV5R came with this Abbree AR-771 antenna. Is doesn't seem to get any better reception than the shorter rubber duck antenna. Is this AR-771 just trying to capitalize on the Chinese copycat name? Is it garbage as I suspect?
I smell a review/comparison coming! -

In the early days of radio communications a "roger" was used to acknowledge a message or question had been received. As in the "roger that" phrase used by law enforcement and military
So why is the beep used at the end of TX called a roger beep? Nobody is acknowledging anything, except the broadcaster/transmitter is saying I'm finished.I highly doubt the engineer who developed it was called Roger. LOL
Anyone know why its called a roger beep?

In case you werent aware - anyone that runs into me while off-roading (IN the dirt, not on the streets!) gets a free GMRS radio! (while supplies last). Just find me most saturdays anywhere between Anza Borrego and Randsburg, and unless I've already given away that days radio(s), you'll get one (IF you need one)
LOL! I think I am flush with radios now!

Not me!
I was listening on Zello but probably napping!
Musta been OffRoaderX then as he was active online at that time.
I wanted two for camping and hiking with the wife n grandkids. We had an "incident" several years ago in J-tree, (kids went climbing and exploring, we all got separated I found kids and the wife didn't show up for several more hours). Lesson learned and I wanted a way to keep in touch and teach the GKs. Plus I am wanting to start going out on 4x4 group drives and they usually require a GMRS radio (scored a midland MTX275 for the truck). Hell the 2 for the $44 special with all the accessories felt like a cheap investment. Adding the antenna, extended batts, and the programming cable I'm still well under $200 total.
I'm no techno-phobe, taught Computer Science, PC repair, data communications, networking, etc for over 20 years. I just might not be as quick to pick up as when i was 20... or 30... or 40! Getting old sucks, but it sure beats the alternative! BUT I WILL PICK THIS UP!
Again, I want to thank you all for the wonderful help and support today.
Tomorrow I will be in NFL mode, but I'll check in here. -

I wanted to buy a UV-5R GMRS just to play with.
i just didn’t want to buy two!
Use the refund on the DigiRig to buy a genuine Nagoya 771G with the proper SMA for that radio, to improve your range.
Before I even got this msg the Nagoya 771G is ordred! I had also opted out of the DigiRig this AM!
I believe you were pinging me earlier I heard "709" and "new guy with the baofeng"! Just you could not hear me respond -

Its on Haven Peak.. step outside and look north, unless you are north of Hillside, then just look toward haven.
I'm thinking Riverside might be too far for this lil handheld???

Whomever was just broadcasting for the "new guy with Baofeng" I was RXing
But apparently not TXing

DTC TX tone is set to 023.
The silence is deafening.
On what peak is this repeater in RC? -

That is the GMRS version so your life is going to be a lot easier getting repeaters set up.
To set up the Inland Empire "Ranchino" repeater, start on Repeater 17/Channel 25 and enter the DTC TX tone 023. For a pro, this should take about 15 seconds to set up right on the keypad, no computer or cables needed.. For your first time, set aside at least an hour.Unfortunately there are only REPTR #s 1 to 8
CH 25 on this one is REPTR3 - according to the Appendix that equates to 462.600
Is that correct so far? -

Has anyone bought the NEW Baofeng GRMS UV-5R?

Dammit I lagged that putt!
On a more back to topic subject...
I'm curious why when Programming the UV-5R GMRS radios with Chirp that the NOAA stations do not appear anywhere in Chirp? Apparently they are hard coded into these HTs? Can anyone confirm?
