  1. Ok, so like I said in my other post, the 905g is on hold for now, Amazon still had the funds from the gift card "pending" and it had not shipped so I don't see how they could get it to me by tomorrow so the order was canceled. I used the gift card funds to buy a Yaesu FT-65r which WILL be here tomorrow and the 805g is still on order and will be here on Monday.

This doesn't mean that I'm not going to get a 905g, it just means it off for now and I'll wait until more of my refund hits.

  2. Kept watching for the Wouxun KG-905g to ship(today is Friday and it's suppose to be delivered tomorrow)and the gift card funds were still "pending" and it hadn't shipped so I canceled the order(I'm still getting the 805g on Monday)and ordered the FT-65r which will be here tomorrow. Should be easy to MARS/CAP Mod and since it's also VHF I can add MURS frequencies and it has NOAA and FM Radio too. It's also CHIRP compatible so that's a big plus. I'm going to try and do a ''First Look" mini-review on it and the 805g on my YouTubes channel when I get them and use them for a bit to see how they work.

  3. You're probably hearing repeater traffic.  Remember, GMRS channels 15-22 are also the receive frequencies for repeaters RPT15-22.

Since you don't have the tones set they simply can't hear you. Try looking up the repeaters in your area and program in the input and output tones then see if you'll get a response.

  4. Not to get too far off topic but I've noticed that sometimes the O.D. of the antenna bade is too large to screw down into the I.D. of the hole on the radio. I had this issue with a Nagoya 701c and my Talkpod A36 Plus. It didn't seat far enough into the radio to make good contact so the factory antenna actually worked better.

  5. That's kind of what I was saying in a tongue of cheek sort of way. It's doubtful that someone who makes thousands or even hundreds of thousands of radios each year wouldn't do something about an issue like this.

I even emailed buytwowsyradios and Anthony got back to me saying that other than a handful of S88's he's not heard of such an issue.

I think it's much to do over nothing but I'll have a year in case something does go sideways.

The problems I have experienced with Wouxun GMRS radios, pretty much across the board can, as I noted earlier, seem to even vary with the day of the week, leading me to believe there may be an inconsistency somewhere.

So depending on the day of the week the radio was made the tones may be off or they may not be off. All the tones or just some of them. It seems that tones are pretty much hardwired into the radio, that is to say they're preset without variation so how they can be out of spec. would beg the question as to how a major manufacturer like Wouxun could be so sloppy.

  7. First off it's odd that the Tx and Rx aren't simply 5MHz apart. Normally I'd the TX is 467.650MHz the Rx will be 462.650MHz, a +5MHz off set which is standard for GMRS repeaters.

I know with some radios you need to enter both frequencies and with others you just need the base frequency (462.xxxMHz) and the offset and the radio will automatically raise the Tx frequency to the 467.xxxMHz one.

You normally only need the TX or input CTCSS to trigger the repeater. You can enter the Rx output tone if you only want to hear the repeater and cut out other traffic on that frequency.  Randy(Notarubicon productions) on the YouTubes has a lot of good videos explaining all of this. If you can check them out and I'll bet it'll clear a lot of things up for you.

  8. So basically, in a nut shell, to test out my 905g I need to program the Rx/Tx tones into a channel of one of my Baofeng radios then do the same with the 905g and if they talks I'm good to go. If they don't I have an issue. What would buytwowayradios do to fix it if I did have an issue? Is it something that I could easily fix at home?

I have, or have had every GMRS radio that Wouxun makes. In some cases, multiple ones, and I have never, once, seen this issue. I also have many friends, and about 200K fans, and none, never, once, have mentioned this issue.

Thanks for chiming in Randy. I ask this same question today on a YouTubes video you did on tones about 5 months ago. I'm really looking forward to getting my 905g and hope there's no issues with it. I've been having a run of bad luck lately with a few of the radios I've bought. I hope the 905g breaks this cycle.

It’s as @Sshannon said, just make sure you are picking the actual tone/Hz and not a  number designated by the manufacturer because some have more tones than others and numbers may not be the same. I have not had any issues with my Wouxun radios and tones or any other radio I have for that matter.

All of the radios I currently have or have had only have the tones in Hz. They're all CTCSS tones. I searched the YouTubes for Wouxun radios having issues with tones being installed correctly in the radios and I've found zero, zip, zilch about it. There seems to be no issues with tones and I don't know why RayP would even mention it.

While Wouxun overall is superior to Midland, B-Tech, and similar brands, one place I have found where they seriously drop the ball is their PL/DPL encoding and decoding.  I have had issues with all models I own(ed) with regard to PL/DPL encoding and decoding.  It seems to be different tones or codes based on the particular radio and maybe even the day of the week. 😵‍💫

I would recommend checking the tones against repeaters or known simplex operations in your area.  If you find a problem, contact Buy Two Way Radios ASAP and make them aware of it.

This-how do I test/check to see if my Tones are correct and do I need to check all of them or if one is right then will they all be right?

  12. How do I test to see if the PL and DPL tones are right? Do I need to text all of them or if one is ok then can I figure they're all ok?

Randy has talked about a lot of Wouxun radios on his YouTubes and never said anything about this issue.  None of the other folks have said anything on their YouTubes reviews about Wouxun radios having this problem with Tones not being set right.

Did you back up the firmware first? I know chirp on linux can be odd so id always back up firmware before trying to modify it. If you actually fully bricked it yeah return it to amazon.

You can't back up the firmware in CHIRP. I think you're talking about the codeplug(frequencies and settings) which have nothing to do with a firmware update. There's an entirely different program that you use to update the firmware. I'll post a link to YouTube.

  14. I finally had one of my returns come through so I had some funds in my Amazon account.  Been going back and forth between the 805g and the 905g and it looks like the 905g won out so I'll be getting my first actual GMRS radio. I've had a lot of other radios(most returned for one reason or another)but this'll be the first one that's actually Part 95E approved.

I've already got the factory CPS installed on my Linux Box via WINE so I'll be ready to set it up when it gets here Saturday.  I'm going to test fit a Nagoya 701c antenna to see if it has a small enough O.D. to work and if it does I'll order a GMRS tuned Nagoya for it. Anyway, just wanted to share the good news. 😉

PS. Also ordered a KG-805g too.
