  1. How did you “find” them?
  2. I’ve been getting notifications that someone registered using my referral link. What does that mean? It doesn’t seem to be a bad thing but it’s made me curious. I did a search in the forums and didn’t see any info but that doesn’t mean I may have missed it. Thanks, Geauxfish
  3. Much better job of explaining than I could do last night.
  4. Are you using the same antenna with the Midlands as you are with the Retevis? It’s getting warm in La and I’ve noticed a significant squeal when the mic is sitting in the hot truck all day and I turn it on. Might be temp driven?
  5. There are other intermediate options as suggested, the BTech, or the 20W Wouxun (direction that I took since the 1000 was sold out at the time).
  6. It’s surprising how often I need an adapter of some kind. Mobile antenna or power meter to HT comes to mind.
  7. Interesting…I would think that you could take out the offset though. But I guess if you do that you’re just making another simplex on the same frequency.
  8. Yup but I would hate to spend $120 for a low loss cable only to lose it all at a cheap connector. Thinking more along the lines of $5 vs $2 type of comparison. edit: Clarification $2 vs $20 comparison
  9. If your radio has programmable DIY channels you should be able to have them both programmed.
  10. I have seen many discussions about the importance of low loss cables like LMR400. Is there a similar rating for coaxial cable adapters? Are all adapters/connectors equal? Do I need to order from a specialty company like DX Engineering or would ones from Amazon be suitable? Thanks! Geauxfish
  11. Wanted specifics, maybe a model which has worked well or did not. That’s the reason many people are on this site. That’s why many people go to your YouTube for valuable information. That response was not.
  12. I’m all in!! Can you give us an example?
  13. Not sure what that graphic means but possibly seeing an aurora in La (as reported by the local “news”) almost seems like it’s a big deal. Guess I’ll see what’s left in the morning.
  14. I’m running the Midland mag mount (MXTA12) and haven’t had any issues. I’m in a rental so similar situation. Using the Midland ghost (MXTA25) but likely going to give the MXTA26 a try pretty soon.
  15. First time I used this one someone mentioned that it sounded like I was under glass. I started trying to talk a little louder and it seems to have corrected the issue.
  16. As someone said, welcome to the rabbit hole…there are so many options it can be a little bit overwhelming. I would suggest starting with some handhelds (let us know what you have coming) and maybe buy a mag base antenna. This would let you see what your “farz” might be and then build on that. There are many great options for mobile units (that can also be used as a base unit). I would walk into it and figure out what would work best for your situation. Good luck and believe me when I say that there are lots of good people ready and willing to help.
  17. Unfortunately they are all different and not all on chirp.
  18. I have 3 radios with 3 different softwares. I was trying to simplify the channel programming and make them all similar. Initially I was hopeful that since they all looked similar (like a spreadsheet), I would be able to copy lines. It turns out that it was just easier to program each like in each software individually. I was able to keep the channels similar but it was more of a manual entry than I had hoped.
  19. I had trouble copying from Chirp to Wouxun software and Radioodity software.
  20. Trying to teach my son, we used Unit 1 and Unit 2. Think next time I’ll go with base and mobile. It really doesn’t matter as many people have said.
  21. I haven't tried one of those jump packs for starting a vehicle but they have a large amount of stored power. I have used a Ryobi battery converted to power up a 20w mobile device (need to find that thread from last month).
