  1. There's no rule against using names on GMRS. So long as someone IDs every 15 minutes, use your names, use a nickname. Hell, give each other trucker or Top Gun call signs lol The ONLY thing the FCC requires is that someone talking under that callsign IDs every 15 minutes
  2. that checks out
  3. I have the 905G, but voice prompts is like the 1st thing I turned off on it, so I don't actually remember if it does or doesn't announce channels
  4. Yup, that's what we do when out and about.
  5. It's not quite that simple. You can still get stepped on with tones. And you could end up interfering with other communication that you can't hear.
  6. It's not just some overlap. The simplex channels are *the same* frequencies. And 8 of the simplex channels are repeater outputs. So, yeah it can get a bit messy when little Timmy is using his $20 FRS radio to make animal noises at his little sister, the road crew down the road doing traffic management, and people talking on repeaters are potentially on the same frequency.
  7. Nice! I made something similar for the 905G a little while back.
  8. That was the biggest driver of this project for me, honestly. The batteries were friggin impossible to stack neatly without coming down like the end of a Jenga game every couple hours haha I'm really happy with how I was able to 'nest' the radio bodies & batteries for the TD-H3. Unfortunately that wasn't really a viable option for the KG-905Gs because the belt clip is on the body of the radio. In practice, I like that mounting of the belt clip better than it being on the battery, but for storage, it's fractionally more difficult.
  9. Some folks are as predictable as the sunrise
  10. Spent a little time last night making a better solution looking for a problem
  11. I got sick of all my radios and batteries falling over every time someone sneezed nearby, so I did some light CAD work and 3D printing this afternoon. I think I might re-do this one to have antenna storage on board as well...

Agreed. Could definitely be a battery monitoring system that shuts things down before it gets too low if it's a newer car, or it could be a battery on the way out.
  13. I bite down on the radio to press the button with my teeth. Gets my mouth NIIIICE and close to the mic.
  14. Update: I did not succeed
  15. Or a car stereo installed properly...
  16. That question gave me work PTSD The customers I've worked with have never once in recorded history made a change to their equipment before it started working improperly. Sometimes, they never made a change even after we hold their hand and show them the evidence of the change they made
  17. There's no menu option on the radio to change the language, I believe it can only be done through the programming software. My guess is you mis-clicked an option. Should be easy enough to switch it back.
  18. Marine Band VHF is between 156 and 174 MHz, so not those either, and IIRC there's some HF frequencies as well for longer range comms.
  19. Europe's GMRS / FRS equivalent is PMR446 (which uses 446 MHz...), and Australia's UHF CB uses 476-477 MHz, so it's not that either. That's a fun one. And they're all labeled "GMRS" as well haha
