  1. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably keep it private.
  2. Update (Last): I got the 1000G Plus configured as a repeater and once again did the above traveling to test it out. The results were the same EXCEPT I went a little farther. Last time I got to 15.71 miles this time I went 17.1 miles. Which is about 1.4 miles farther and she was still hearing my “Loud and Clear.” This tells me I could go even farther. BUT since 17.1 miles is on the other side of town that we go to it is good enough for me. This experiment tells me that a repeater does work for the purpose I wanted and that was to allow my wife to use her Btech hand held and still communicate with me in town. I know some of you will say “So will a base station” but the limitations of a base station for us is that my wife doesn’t want to be “tied” to the microphone of a base station. Here is the equipment we used: 2 Wouxum 1000G Plus configured as a repeater, XLT Duplexer (DP-450X5N-50 from), 50 feet of M&P Cable, Smalex SEC-1235M power supply and the TRAM 1486 Antenna. For my Tahoe, a Wouxum 1000G Plus and the Midland MXTA26 6db gain Whip Antenna. For my wife at home she had the Btech GMRS PRO, Btech BS-22 (to activate the PTT on the GMRS PRO), and Airpods for a speaker. I know people suggested the COMET CA-712efc but I already had the Tram and if it didn’t work I’d get the COMET but as you can see the Tram works fine. This is the end of my updates. I’d like to thank everyone who replied to this post and gave me good advice and comments.
  3. That's why I'm testing it. To see what happens. If I can get what I got yesterday then I'll be happy because 15.71 miles is about the extent of where I go in town. Like I said earlier I was still getting "Loud and Clear" at 15.71 miles so, hopefully, with the repeater it will still give me that distance. If not it'll be back to the drawing board. Thanks for your comment.
  4. I didn't have to the "Queen" replied to my post and stated "it works." If you watch his video he did a review of it and it did "work" but only for a little while before he started having problems with it. At the end of the video he returned it for a full refund.
  5. Update 2: I got the antenna and connected it as a base station. I wanted to test it so I went out in my Tahoe contacting the base station as I traveled. I got to 15.71 miles and my wife was still stating that the reception was “loud and clear.” Given this I’m sure I’d be able to communicate farther but I had to turn around and go home. I was checking various hills and valleys to see if I could still get reception at the “lower” elevation and was always "loud and clear". Today I’m suppose to receive the other 1000G Plus and should be able to connect 2 of them as a repeater. Once this is done I’ll do another test driving the same path. Stay tuned.
  6. I’ll see what it does when I get it up, hopefully tomorrow. If not I’ll think about getting the Comet.
  7. The Comet wasn’t available so I ended up with the Tram 1486. My antenna will be 40 feet off the ground. Which will be higher than anything else around, as far as my eyes can see. Just have to remember not to look down when I’m installing the antenna.
  8. Oh I forgot you did say you’re going to review it in your last YouTube video. I can hardly wait to see what you have to say. Your videos are really informative and interesting. I like your attitude not to mention your T-shirts.
  9. UPDATE: Just to keep you posted I. installed the 1000G Plus in my Tahoe and went for a test run. My wife only had a Btech GMRS Pro and in our house. I was able to get over twice the distance then with just 2 GMRS Pro's. At 4.2 Miles we were "loud and clear" but at 6.5 miles we didn't have any contact. As a side note it was overcast with occasional rain. I guess I should have tried 5 miles but wasn't sure where that was. Tomorrow, if it doesn't rain, I'll put the antenna on the house, about 40'. Then connect my other 1000G Plus as a base station and test it out. Then on Friday, again if no rain, I'll connect them up as a repeater and see what happens. Only time will tell. (We having fun yet?)
  10. I'm kind of curious. How do we KNOW it will work when Baofengtech just announced it?
  11. I've been out here since 1978 and probably the 3rd person to move here. Most people who move out here buy mobile homes and put on their property. The person across the street also has a 2-story house but I'm still higher then they are. I my be wrong but I don't think any trees will grow higher then me. If they do I can always trim them up (timber). I'm not a tree hugger but I do try to save what I can. I had a VERY big tree that birds loved but unfortunately the drought got it. It was falling apart so I had to cut it down before it fell on my fence. We do live out in the country. I have 15 acres, the person behind me has 75 most of the rest have 5 acres. I'm also almost at the top of a hill so even if people do decide to build they'd have to go more then 3-story and even then I don't think it'll be a problem. Thanks for your reply
  12. True there are 3 main reasons I decided on a repeater and not a base station. 1) Not being tied to it. Our handheld is good while I'm home but won't work when I go into town. 2) We don't always have phone coverage out here so when I do go into town and we need to contact each other, hopefully, the repeater will help. I'm hoping the the 50W Wouxum will do the trick, even though I understand the duplexer will reduce the wattage some. SOME people state they get 20-30 miles from their repeater. My town is only 13 miles, as the crow flies. So if it goes that far I'd be happy. If not it's back to the drawing board. 3) It is harder for my wife to get up and down and is afraid of falling and doesn't want to go answer the base station. I decided against placing the base station near her or extending the microphone because of the conversation in "Techinical Discussion->Microphone extension". I appreciated your comment.
  13. Your last statement covers my need. As I said in another post it is getting harder for my wife to get around. She sometimes feels faint and is afraid of falling down, which she has done on occasions and needs help getting up. So if we have a repeater, and it works for our need, then it's worth the $$$. I'd like to make sure I can contact her, not via the phone because she sometimes forgets to turn the volume up, plus we are in an area that doesn't always have phone coverage. I was just, at first, thinking of just a base station, but the more answers I got from my other post in the Technical Discussion->Microphone Extension forum, I decided against it. These answers/comments are really great and I appreciate all of them.
  14. What antenna would you recommend? From what I've watched on YouTube and read some in this forum. People recommened the Tram 1486 or the Comet CA-712efc. Considering the Comet wasn't available I figured I'd go with the Tram. It it does what I want then mission accomplished.
  15. I'll keep ya'll posted. Both if it accomplishes what I wanted it to do or not. Isn't that is what life is about? Live and learn. That's one reason I'm speaking advice and ideas. I don't believe everything I read on the internet. (Or should I? )
