  1. I was playing around with radio mobile online and notice that their calculations are off because they are using dBi numbers in dB and dBm equations. That's what prompted me to look for a calculator for µV to dBm. t They have it as (46.23-1.3+9.8+9.8-1.6)-132.0=-69.07dBm I believe it should be (46.23-1.3+7.65+7.65-1.6)-132.0=-73.37dBm

  3. Ya, I just got the CA712EFC and the "C" is just a sticker they put on. 1st time I bought the antenna I emailed the company and they said that's the way they do it. 2nd time I ordered the antenna it was the same. No need to email the company, had already been through it.
  4. My non output H3 would transmit for about 1/3 mile to my other H3. But it wouldn't connect to a repeater. So very likely there is output even if it's just from the oscillator in the front end and not the main power output. The radios are sensitive enough to pick up very weak signals. Just not throw them far enough for a repeater to pick them up. But ya, check your tones. With the H3 you can wirelessly clone one radio to the other. So if one works and the cloned one doesn't there is an output issue.
  5. Ya, that can be annoying and nice at the same time. But you have to do it in the right order. If you put the tone in the RX it'll automatically put it in the TX, but you still need to go there and press the blue button to enter it. At that point if you have a split tone you can enter it, but you must put the RX tone in 1st. It you put the TX tone in 1st and then the RX it'll change the TX tone. That was just part of the learning curve on the radio.
  6. Why are you here? You don't seem to like any radios anyone has, only have negative things to say. Do you come here to bish at people because your life is so sad?
  7. It's not an "issue". It's the way it works. Unfortunately it's not in the manual so no one realizes it until they ask questions. It's more of a missing item in the manual.
  8. Did the update a while ago and it was successful. I had the cable with the chip built in and the cable they sent me was just a straight USB>RJ45 no chip. I'm guessing the chip is in the repeater. So ever since I did the update it's been tough for my house to reach the repeater. Today I remembered they put a squelch function in the works and I went to find it and the default is set to 6. Who sets the default that high? I dropped it to 1 and low and behold my wife can reach the shop. I've always been able to reach the house good. At 6 it was pretty sketchy and a lot of the time no audio, just the repeater courtesy tone. We'll see if it keeps working from now on or if this was just a coincidence.
  9. Sounds like they took a nice radio and really screwed it up. I have none of those issues with the original. Worst issue is you get a dead transmit radio every once in a while, and they replace that. Ya, if you get in with them through email they will treat you right. I deal with Luxi and she hasn't lead me wrong yet. Gave me a UV26 to test and review. I like the H3 better.
  10. What's not awesome about it? I think the TDH3 is pretty awesome for the money.
  11. Got the tracking # for the hardline, not arriving for a week. Looks like by that time the weather might be a bit more pleasant to be out in. Below freezing tonight.
  12. Sounds like a good setup.
  13. Well that's different than entering the program mode for the original TDH3. It's just push the PTT and turn the unit on after you've activated the firmware update in the IAP app. We don't need to push the 1 button.
  14. Usually with this type of hardware you can just put the previous firmware back into the machine and get it going again. It has a ROM memory that is the basis of the radio and the firmwares just update that without affecting it. So turning the radio off, push the PTT and use the previous version and it should start up again.
  15. Sure there are. I would consider all repeater channels DIY channels. You have to program the radio to make them work if they are tone encoded. You have to do that yourself. The other simplex channels are all programmed to work as is.
  16. The main reason they went to digital is so they could spy on everyone and everything. Digital data can be stored on a hard drive, it can be searched and categorized. It has the advantage of having 4 times the bandwidth for over the air and it does encrypt the signal so you can't easily receive the signal in analog form. But these days simple encryption is easily thwarted and listened to.
  17. Pretty much the name of any bill is the exact opposite of what it actually will do.
  18. Not exactly progress in my book. But it's a start. Got the tracking # for the antenna and waiting for the cable to be shipped. I assume a few days for that to be assembled since I'm having the ends put on it. And then the big wait for the bucket truck to become available for my use.
  19. I can activate my stove if I put my 5 watt GMRS near it. Only on 467MHz though. And my neighbors motion activated light is activated by my 20 watt mobile, again on the 467MHz frequency. Not sure but my base station doesn't seem to turn on the light and it's the same radio I have in my truck. And I have headlamps that will turn on or change over to flashing if already on and my Fein vacuum sometimes gets activated. I don't think it's from SE's, I think it's from the direct output of the radios.
  20. Sounds like it works both ways.
  21. Didn't know Spurtious Emissions caused woman to be naked. Good to know.
  22. Well you get the sad hams complaining about radios that do -58dB when the upper limit is -60dB. Good chance that -40dB isn't going to affect much.
  23. Usually that not SE but on the same frequency in a constant transmit mode.
  24. They are close. But it's not the same hand.
  25. Ok, got the ball rolling somewhat. I ordered 24 feet of Commscope LDF4-50A 1/2" Hardline and another Comet CA-712EFC. Still need to wait for them to arrive and then the availability for my buddy to bring the bucket truck by to git R done.
